(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 9, 2026 – The second race night of the 2026 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing season brought another dose of brisk spring weather, an extra round of track preparation, and four more race winners celebrating in victory lane Saturday, May 9, at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

In the first event of the 2026 Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model Series presented by 106.5 The Buzz Sheboygan’s Rock Station, Joel Bennett of Hortonville took the checkered flag in the 30-lap PDTR Late Model A main.

T.J. Smith of Greenville earned the win in the 25-lap Akright Auto 360 Sprint Car main event.

Three-time and defending PDTR Oostburg Automotive Grand National champion Will Sorce of Franksville scored a commanding victory in the 25-lap A main.

Matt Urban of Milwaukee was victorious in the 25-lap Sheboygan Flooring B Mod headliner.

Dry and dusty track conditions during preliminary race action and the Grand National and B Mod main events prompted a complete rework of the racing surface before the Super Six Late Model Series A main.

After the tacked-on clay farming session served up a consistent track surface, Joel Bennett bolted into the lead on the drop of the green flag in the 30-lap Super Six Late Model Series headliner.

Third starter Terry Casey of New London ducked under outside front row starter Chris Oertel of Marshfield to seize second on the opening lap. From there, Bennett led a swift Late Model train throughout the rest of the contest.

The lone caution flag appeared on lap 11 for the slowing car of defending Super Six Late Model Series champion Taylor Scheffler of Waukesha. Bennett held control after the restart and negotiated the rear of the field over the final eight laps to secure his first career Late Model victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

Casey was second, Gunner Frank of Montrose, Iowa, finished third from the fifth starting spot, Oertel placed fourth, and 10th starter Turk Letizia of Milwaukee claimed hard charger honors by advancing five spots to round out the top five.

The opening three laps of the 360 Sprint Car A main yielded three different leaders after mishaps ended the runs of both front row starters. Carter Chevalier of Andover, Minn., took the early lead before coming to rest against the turn four wall on the opening lap to draw the first of two caution flags.

After inheriting the lead on the ensuing restart, second starter Hayden Johnson of Campbellsport lost power on the backstretch at the conclusion of lap 2 to bring out the second and final caution flag of the race.

T.J. Smith, who started fourth, assumed the lead on the final restart of the race on lap 3 and built up a solid cushion over the rest of the field. On lap 10, Smith caught slower traffic, which allowed 2008 PDTR 360 Sprint Car champ Lance Fassbender of Burnett, who started fifth, to close in on the lead.

Fassbender pulled up right behind Smith on lap 13 and appeared poised to make a move. However, Smith managed to successfully slice through lapped traffic to distance himself from Fassbender’s advances.

Smith went on to collect his third career PDTR 360 Sprint Car A-main victory. Fassbender finished second, defending PDTR 360 Sprint Car champion Kevin Karnitz of West Bend placed third from the sixth starting spot, two-time PDTR 360 Sprint Car champ Ben Schmidt of Plymouth rode up from the 11th starting position to finish fourth, and eighth starter Brandon Berth of Cascade took fifth.

After starting on the pole, Will Sorce took the lead and ran with it in the Grand National A main. After building up a full straightaway lead over third starter Mavrick Ruh of Elkhart Lake by lap 5, the only thing that slowed down Sorce was a caution flag for a two-car incident on lap 6.

Sorce went on to score his 10th career PDTR Grand National A-main win in commanding half-lap fashion over Josh Pierce of Adell, who charged up from the 11th starting spot to place second. Ruh was third, Derek Kaat of Plymouth took fourth after starting fifth, and Nick Schumacher of Eagle moved up from the 13th starting position to complete the top five.

Polesitter Rory Welch of Belgium paced the first eight laps of the B Mod main event before spinning in turn four on lap 9. Matt Urban, who started fifth, gained the lead on the restart and soon felt pressure from 2024 PDTR B Mod champion Travis Schmidt of Cascade, who started seventh.

After a pair of caution periods on lap 13, Urban continued to be hounded by Schmidt, who tried every move in the book to steal the lead to no avail.

Urban held on to earn his second career PDTR B Mod A-main win. Schmidt had to settle for second, four-time PDTR B Mod champ Tim Warner of Malone placed third after starting 10th, sixth starter Steve Lorier of Sheboygan wound up fourth, and Beaver Dam’s Tim Sheppard advanced from the eighth starting spot to end up fifth.

Josh Walter of Plymouth won the 12-lap 360 Sprint Car B main.

Taylor Scheffler claimed overall Late Model fast qualifier accolades with a lap of 14.351 seconds.

Tristan Furseth of Cambridge earned overall 360 Sprint Car fast qualifier honors with a lap of 12.997 seconds.

The event drew a field of 82 total entries, including 28 360 Sprint Cars, 20 Grand Nationals, 17 Late Models, and 17 B Mods.

The city of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department served as the evening’s trophy sponsor on You’re Our Heroes Night, which offered free admission to all U.S. military, police, fire, and EMS personnel.

PDTR returns to action on Saturday, May 16, when it hosts the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series for the first of three occasions in 2026. The PDTR Akright Auto 360 Sprint Cars and Oostburg Automotive Grand Nationals are also on the card.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and on-track action at 5:30 p.m.
