(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 4, 2020 – After a week away from the race track, rookie driver Alex Pokorski and Pokorski Motorsports team returned to action with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars in a supporting role to the second annual Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions-Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race on Thursday, July 30 at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

The PDTR 360 Sprint Car portion of the program, which drew 27 cars, featured a modified format with no B main and the A main lineup set straight up by passing points with no inversion.

After starting eighth in the second 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski spun in turn two on lap 2 before restarting the race at the rear of the nine-car field. Pokorski held his position for the majority of the race before moving up to eighth a when Lance Fassbender slowed and dropped out the race on lap 8.

“During the heat race, I felt okay in the car, but it was a little touchy when I had to race close to other drivers,” Pokorski said. “Using the brake or changing my line threw the car off a bit.”

By virtue of his eighth place finish in his heat race, Pokorski lined up 20^th in the 24-car 26-lap 360 Sprint Car A-main field.

On lap 6, Pokorski moved up to 19^th in the running order before moving around Blake Wondra with a high move in turn four on lap 13. On lap 19, Pokorski lost control and spun, which dropped him back to 22^nd when the race resumed.

Pokorski found his groove on the restart to work past Preston Ruh, Mike Decker, Tyler Brabant and Chris Larson over the final seven laps en route to a 16^th-place finish in his first career 360 Sprint A main, which was won by Kurt Davis.

“For the A main, we made some adjustments and the car felt really good,” Pokorski. “It was a lot of fun getting to race my way up a few spots and being able to compete in an A main. When I spun, I was mad at myself, but I was able to recover most of or all of the spots I lost in the last few laps. That was the best night I have had so far and I was happy with the results.”

Two days later on Saturday, Aug. 1, Pokorski returned to the driver’s seat for a PDTR 360 Sprint Car event at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

With 32 PDTR 360 Sprint Cars checked in for the night, Pokorski started sixth in the first 10-lap heat race. Pokorski got high on the lightning fast racing surface on the opening laps, which dropped him to eighth in the running order.

Due to the fast and tacky track conditions, passing was at a premium during heat race action and Pokorski finished the race in eighth place.

After starting 12^th in the 15-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main, Pokorski moved up to 11^th when Blake Wondra spun into the infield on the opening lap. The race was slowed for two red flags involving flips by rookies Mike MacFarlane on lap 5 and Scott Armstrong on lap 13.

After restarting 11^th on lap 13, Pokorski moved up one spot over the final two laps to record a 10^th-place finish.

“Saturday’s track was very wet and fast all night long,” Pokorski said. “I’ve never experienced a track like that for a race, so it took me a bit to figure out how to drive it. Passing was very difficult. It was hard to make up any ground on people after a few laps under green because everyone could just keep their foot on the floor the whole way around. The B main and heat race were both very similar in that aspect.

“Looking forward, I want to get better at heavy race tracks and become more consistent,” Pokorski said. “I am back at school working already, but luckily I can still make it back for a few more Saturdays to race.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Aug. 8 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.
