(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 15, 2022 – As the most experienced driver in the field, five-time Midwest Sprint Car Association champion Kurt Davis of South Milwaukee successfully displayed that he still has quite a bit left in the tank as he led every lap en route to victory in the 25-lap Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, May 15.
Davis used his pole position starting spot to jump into the lead on the drop of the green flag of the 25-lap MSA main, which was contest on an ultra-fast and correspondingly tricky track surface.
The 37-year veteran stuck tight to the inside groove as outside front row starter Jack Vanderboom of Dousman stayed in Davis’ tire tracks throughout the duration of the race.
Davis caught the rear of the 15-car field on lap 7, which allowed Vanderboom to cut into the lead slightly. With passing at a premium, Davis delicately maneuvered his way through lapped traffic, but he was unable to shake Vanderboom as the two leaders opened up a half-lap cushion over the third-place car of Mike Yurmanovich of Cascade by the half-way point.
The lone caution flag appeared on lap 20 when Alex Pokorski of West Bend slowed to a stop along the backstretch, after making contact with the front stretch wall.
When the race resumed, Davis hit his marks perfectly over the final five laps to secure his MSA-leading 64th career A-main victory and his first MSA 360 Sprint Car victory since scoring a main event win at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on May 8, 2021.
“I’m pretty worn out after that one,” Davis said in victory lane. “Starting from the pole was certainly the place to be on this track tonight. These young guys like Jack [Vanderboom] and several others seem to be getting faster and faster. This is one for the old guys.”
Vanderboom had to settle for second, Yurmanovich, who started third, placed third, 2011 MSA champion Ben Schmidt of Plymouth finished fourth after starting fifth and fourth starter Tim Haddy of Waupun rounded out the top five.
Defending MSA champion Travis Arenz of Sheboygan Falls, who came into the event as the winner of four of the previous five MSA A mains at Angell Park Speedway and the first two MSA events of the 2022 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track, rallied from a broken axle in the first MSA heat race to place eighth after starting 15th in the main event.
MSA 10-lap heat race victories went to Tim Haddy and Mike Yurmanovich.
The third MSA 360 Sprint Car Series racing event of the 2022 campaign drew a field of 16 entrants to the historic Angell Park Speedway third-mile clay oval.
The MSA 360 Sprint Cars will run in support of the fifth-ever appearance of the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car Series at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. in conjunction with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with on-track action slated to begin at 6 p.m.
