(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 31, 2024 – Sixth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor Justin Erickson of Plymouth schooled the field in applying the “how to win races” page from the dirt track racing 101 handbook to fend off past Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association champions Kurt Davis and Ben Schmidt on the way to his first 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Caar A-main victory of the 2024 season in front of a large Sheboygan County Fair Night crowd at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 31.

In the 30-lap Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series main event, Joel Myers Jr. of Sebastopol, Calif. collected his second consecutive IRA main event victory of the 2024 campaign at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

NASCAR stock car and sports car competitor Josh Bilicki of Menominee Falls paced the first three-quarters of the opening lap of the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event from the pole before second starter Justin Erickson slipped past Bilicki coming off of turn four to lead lap one.

Erickson pulled away from Bilicki over the next four laps before the first of four race stoppages occurred on lap 5 when Scott Conger of Eagle spun in turn two.

Two laps later, 32nd-year open-wheel veteran Paul Pokorski of West Bend slowed with a flat right rear tire to bring out the second caution flag of the event. The third caution appeared after another two laps were completed when Bilicki spun out of the runner-up spot in turn two to collect Brandon Berth of Cascade, who had been running third.

When the race returned to green flag action for an extended period, Erickson again flexed his muscle to pull out to a half-straightaway cushion on lap 15 as 2011 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car champion and current points leader Ben Schmidt of Plymouth, who started ninth, gave chase in second.

Meanwhile, two-time PDTR 360 Sprint Car champion and five-time MSA title winner Kurt Davis of South Milwaukee swept into the third spot from the seventh starting position on lap 20.

One lap later Bill Taylor of Boltonville flipped in turn one following contact with a lapped car to trigger a red flag on lap 21.

Following a single-file restart, the high-riding Davis powered around Schmidt to heist second from inside-dwelling Schmidt on lap 22. However, Erickson was not to be denied as he rocketed away from the field to earn his second career PDTR and MSA 360 Sprint Car main event win, his first A-main triumph since May 21, 2022.

With the victory, Erickson became the seventh different driver to score an Akright Auto PDTR 360 Sprint Car A-main triumph in nine 2024 A-main events. His main event win also represented the eighth different main event winner in 12 MSA events during the 2024 campaign.

Davis placed second, Schmidt moved a step closer to wrapping up his second career PDTR and MSA championship by finishing third, 17th starter Eric Wilke of Genesee charged up 13 spots to come home fourth and Chris Clayton of Waldo also advanced 13 positions to round out the top five.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve got a win,” Erickson said. “The crew pours their heart out into this thing. Building our own motors that can compete with some of these guys is great. I love it.”

Schmidt extended his lead in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car points standings to 43 points over Alex Pokorski of West Bend and 48 points over Justin Erickson with just one event remaining on the 2024 schedule during the annual Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Outside front-row starter Scotty Thiel of Sheboygan powered around polesitter Mike Reinke of Howards Grove to gain the early advantage in the 30-lap IRA main event.

By lap 6, Thiel had built up a solid full straightaway lead over the field working the extreme high side of the track.

However, on lap 12, Thiel spun in turn three after racing in close quarters with a lapped car. Following a trip to the work area, Thiel rejoined the field at the rear of the 24-car field.

Two circuits later the second caution flag was displayed when fourth starter Kyle Schuett of Philo, Ill. jumped the cushion and hit the wall in turn two before two-time IRA champion and sixth starter Jake Blackhurst of Hannah City, Ill. made contact, as the two drivers dueled for second.

Joel Myers Jr. of Sebastopol, Calif. rolled to his second consecutive main event victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. by claiming the 30-lap Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series A-main at the 2024 Sheboygan County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 31.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

When the race resumed, 12th starter Joel Myers Jr., who advanced from fourth to second following the Schuett-Blackhurst incident, powered forward to slide past Reinke and grab the lead exiting turn four on lap 16.

Meanwhile, two-time PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car champion Travis Arenz of Sheboygan Falls, who started 11th, slid underneath Reinke into second on lap 18.

The final 12 laps of the race proved to be intense as Arenz hunted Myers Jr. down with a cushion-pounding performance along the extreme high line of the well-manicured multi-groove third-mile clay oval. As the leaders weaved through slower traffic, Arenz dove underneath Myers Jr. to take over the top spot on lap 21.

One lap later, Shelby Bosie of Lincoln, Ill. flipped in turn four after contact with Myers Jr. Arenz controlled the restart at the head of the field, but Myers Jr. stayed focused on the top spot as the two leaders stayed glued to the high line, which extended close to the outside wall.

Myers Jr. stalked Arenz along the cushion until sliding past the three-time Plymouth Dirt Track division champion (2021-2022 PDTR 360 Sprint Car, 2013 Outlaw Compact) to wrestle away the top spot in thick lapped traffic on lap 26. Myers Jr. held on from there to post his second career IRA A-main victory, both of which have come at The Plymouth Dirt Track during the 2024 campaign.

Arenz earned a strong second place showing, 14th starter Blake Nimee of Oswego, Ill. placed third, Thiel stormed back from his lap 12 spin to advance from the rear of the field to take fourth and 2022 IRA champion Jordan Goldesberry of Springfield, Ill. placed fifth after starting 13th.

“Starting 12th, I got a lot of spots early and had luck with Jake [Blackhurst] wrecking out and the 9 [Kyle Schuett] car wrecking,” Myers Jr. said. “Then Travis [Arenz] got me in lapped traffic. I saw he couldn’t run as hard as I could. I knew if I could run five good laps, I could get him and that’s what happened.”

Kevin Karnitz of West Bend was victorious PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car B-main.

Tylar Rankin of Angola, Ind. captured the win in the 12-lap IRA 410 Sprint Car B-main.

Mike Reinke claimed fast qualifier honors in IRA 410 Sprint Car Series qualifying with a lap of 12.031 seconds.

Katelyn Krebsbach of Cascade captured the overall PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car fast qualifier award with a fast lap of 12.271 seconds.

The 12th event of the 2024 PDTR campaign, which was sponsored by Hemp Works of Waldo, featured a total of 54 Sprint Cars, including 27 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars and 27 IRA 410 Sprint Cars.

The next event at The Plymouth Dirt Track is the seventh annual Jim “Wildman” Watson Class on Saturday, Sept. 21 featuring the final race of the 2024 WBAM Dirt Kings Late Model Series, Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Cars IMCA Modifieds and Street Stocks.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4 p.m., qualifying will take place at 5 p.m. with racing to begin at 5:45 p.m.

Special event pricing will be in place. Grandstand admission is $25 for adults, $5 for children ages 7-11 with children ages 6 and under admitted free. Pit passes are $35.

The 2024 campaign will conclude at The Plymouth Dirt Track with the seventh annual Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships, which wraps up the season for four Wisconsin-based Sprint Car divisions – the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars, IRA 410 Sprint Cars, Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Cars, and IRA Lightning Sprints – on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and “on-track action” scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Special event pricing will be in effect.

The 2024 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Awards Ceremony is set to take place Saturday, Oct. 12 at Racers Hall in Plymouth at 7 p.m.

Post returns to PDTR-MSA field, mechanical gremlins linger

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

After being away from the track due to motor woes, Randy Post returned to Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, Aug. 23. – JW’s Car and Raccing photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 27, 2024 – After a month-long absence from Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car competition, Randy Post returned to the seat of the Randy Post Racing No. 54 machine at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, Aug. 23 with hopes of building off a career-best sixth place A-main showing in his most recent PDTR appearance on Saturday, July 20.

After suffering motor issues, which prevented him from turning a competitive lap in an MSA event in his most recent outing at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, July 26, Post had been out of action for three consecutive weekends before getting back at it on Aug. 23.

The third-year PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car campaigner opened the night by qualifying 20th overall in the 29-car field with a 13.194-second tour of the 74-year-old third-mile clay oval.

From there, Post lined up seventh and came home seventh in the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA heat race, which put him in the 12-lap B-main needing a top six finish to lock into the 25-lap PDTR-MSA main event.

Post rolled off sixth in the 12-lap PDTR MSA B main and was holding his own in the sixth position until the halfway point when he was forced to retire from the race due to a throttle linkage issue. The night came to an early end for the Oostburg, Wis. driver with an 11th place B-main finish.

“The beginning of the night was a little weird because we had some issues originally that I had fixed, but we never started the car again to make sure that was the issue,” Post said. “In qualifying, I was more worried about watching the temperature and listening to the motor to make sure it was running well while knowing we were in a stacked heat and starting in the back. I just wanted to try to move up as far as we could since I knew our chances of making it into the feature through the heat were very slim.

“The car was handling very well in the B-main and we were holding the transfer spot,” Post said. “Then the throttle linkage broke, ending our night. That’s fixed now and we will work on our regular maintenance this week to be better for my favorite race night of the year during the Sheboygan County Fair.”

The Randy Post Racing Team is set to compete in an Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car event, along with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars, during the 2024 Sheboygan County Fair at Sheboygan County Fair Park in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 31.

On-track action is scheduled to commence at 5 p.m.

Alex Pokorski scores top five Plymouth-MSA run, Fair Night race on tap

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Alex Pokorski turned in a fourth place showing in a 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, Aug. 23. – Shawn Mueller Photography

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 27, 2024 – With the final laps of the 2024 season in sight, Alex Pokorski and the Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team crew strung together a strong top five A-main showing in a 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car main event Friday, Aug. 23 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

The West Bend, Wis. competitor opened the night by qualifying eighth in the 29-car PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car Association field.

After starting second in the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski came home third to earn a berth in the 25-lap headliner.

The 2023 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car Most Improved Award winner fired off from the outside front row starting spot in the 25-lap main event and fell back to fourth in the early going before being cycled back to fifth near the halfway point of the event.

Following a red flag and two yellow flags, Pokorski utilized the third and final caution flag restart to bolt past T.J. Smith into fourth on lap 20. Pokorski maintained the fourth spot the rest of the way in a race won by Scotty Thiel.

“We had a fuel leak issue in qualifying, which we fixed for the heat race,” Pokorski said. “Following the heat race, we tuned up the fuel some more for the feature to get it right, along with some other adjustments to the car. The track was very nice again, which made for good racing. We lost a spot on the first two restarts by being in the wrong lane. We then got one spot back on the final restart when we started in the preferred lane. Anvelink rules Plymouth Dirt Kings, season titles go to Sorce, Schmidt

Thiel, Kafka, Brass bank A-main victories

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 23, 2024 – Two weeks after claiming a 106.5 The Buzz Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model Series A-main victory with a late-race pass, it was a case of déjà vu as six-time WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour champion and current point leader Nick Anvelink of Bonduel pulled off another winning move in the closing laps en route to victory in the 30-lap 106.5 The Buzz Dirt Kings Tour Late Model A-main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, Aug. 23.

Scotty Thiel of Sheboygan made a rare appearance behind the wheel of Randy Sippel’s 39s car payoff as he rolled to victory in the 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car main event.

Scott Kafka of Cleveland led wire to wire en route to his first career 25-lap Oostburg Automotive Grand National A-main victory. Will Sorce of Franklin secured his second career PDTR Grand National season championship with a sixth-place finish.

PDTR rookie Logan Brass of Howards Grove captured his first career 25-lap Sheboygan Falls B Mod A-main win. At the same time, Travis Schmidt of Waldo wrapped up his initial PDTR B Mod season title.

Outside front row starter Troy Springborn of Shawano used the high groove to outpower six-time PDTR Late Model and two-time Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model Series champion, who started on the pole, into the lead on the opening lap of the 30-lap Dirt Kings Late Model main event.

The two accomplished veteran drivers dueled side-by-side in the initial laps, while Nick Anvelink, who started fourth, moved into third on lap 3. Anvelink then charged into pressure Mueller for second on lap 6 and quickly closed the gap on Springborn on lap 7 before the first of five caution flags was displayed on lap 8 when five-time PDTR Late Model champion Justin Schmidt of Cleveland slowed in turn one.

Mueller used a strong restart to slip past Anvelink into second on lap 9 before pressuring the high-riding Springborn for the lead along the low groove on lap 10.

Two laps later, 2020 Dirt Kings Tour champion Justin Ritchie of New London spun in turn four to bring out the second caution. After one lap of green flag action, Charlie Schmidt spun in turn four to bring out the third yellow flag of the race.

Another strong restart from Mueller pushed the familiar blue and red No. 89 into the lead along the low groove on lap 14. Three laps later, Anvelink dove past Springborn with a slide job in turn four to advance into second.

The leaders were approaching slower traffic when the fourth and final caution flag was displayed for Shawn Miller of Gillett, who spun in turn four, on lap 26. Two laps later, Taylor Scheffler of Waukesha spun along the front stretch to draw the fifth and final caution flag of the event.

Anvelink hounded Mueller following the final restart and used an outside-in move in turns three and four to cut off Mueller’s inside line and sweep into the top spot on the second to last lap on the way to his 28th career Dirt Kings Late Model Tour A-main victory, fourth career PDTR Late Model A-main win and second consecutive A-main triumph of the 2024 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

After losing the lead twice to Anvelink in the closing laps over the course of the last two Late Model A-mains at The Plymouth Dirt Track, Mueller had to settle for second. 2014 PDTR Late Model champ Mitch McGrath of Waukesha moved up to place fourth and Mike Mullen of Seymour started and finished fifth.

Inside third row starter T.J. Smith of Greenville bolted in to challenge polesitter Scotty Thiel for the lead along the low line on the opening lap of the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A-main.

Smith had surged into the lead on lap 2 just as a red flag was displayed when Katelyn Krebsbach of Cascade flipped hard along the back stretch. Following the restart, 2011 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car champion Ben Schmidt of Plymouth rode the cushion to swing into fifth on lap 3 from his eighth starting position.

The hard-charging Schmidt then bolted around fifth starter Brandon Berth of Cascade and second starter Alex Pokorski of West Bend to assume third on lap 8.

Thiel, who is the current Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series points leader, caught the rear of the field on lap 9, which allowed Smith to cut the lead gap a bit.

A yellow flag appeared on lap 11 when Spyder Akright rolled to a stop in turn four. The ensuing restart saw Schmidt dive low to sneak past Smith into the runner-up spot on lap 12.

Four laps later, the cushion-pounding Thiel was enjoying a half-straightaway advantage when he caught up to the back of the pack again. Brady Portschy then brought out the final caution flag of the event when he slowed in turn four on lap 19.

Thiel commanded the restart and cruised away from Schmidt over the final six laps on the way to his fourth career PDTR 360 Sprint Car main event win and 14th career MSA 360 Sprint A-main victory in his first PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car start of the 2024 season.

With the win, Thiel became the sixth different driver to claim an A-main victory in the eight PDTR-MSA A-mains conducted at The Plymouth Dirt Track in 2024.

Schmidt came home second to maintain his PDTR and MSA points lead, Berth finished third, Pokorski placed fourth, while two-time PDTR and five-time MSA 360 Sprint Car champion Kurt Davis of South Milwaukee moved up from the seventh starting spot to finish fifth.

Scott Kafka seized the lead on the opening lap of the 25-lap Grand National main event from the pole position and third starter Chad Espen of West Bend followed in second.

By lap 6, Kapka held a solid quarter-straightaway lead on Espen before 2022 PDTR Grand National champion Luke Scholten of Oostburg passed second starter Jason Juech of Plymouth to take over third.

On lap 10, Espen cut into Kapka’s gap before the lone caution flag of the race came out on lap 16 when Derek Kaat of Plymouth spun in turn four. Scholten attempted to use the outside lane to pressure Espen for second place following the restart.

However, Espen fended off the challenge, while Scholten dropped back to fourth on lap 18. Kafka continued to hold down the lead over the final seven laps on the way to his first career PDTR Grand National A-main triumph.

Espen finished second, 2018 PDTR Grand National champion Tyler Kulow of Plymouth finished third, after starting seventh, two-time PDTR Grand National champ and seven-time division champion at The Plymouth Dirt Track Brian Gilles of Plymouth placed fourth after starting 10th and Scholten rounded out the top five.

Polesitter Tim Thrun of Horicon surged into the lead on the drop of the green flag of the 25-lap B Mod main event with third starter Ryan Pafford of Kiel in tow. From there, Thrun proceeded to build up an impressive full-straightaway cushion over Pafford by lap 10.

Thrun maintained a stranglehold on the lead, while first-year PDTR B Mod competitor Logan Brass advanced into second lap 17. The first of three caution flags appeared on lap 18 when Barrett Hummelmeier of Beaver Dam spun in turn two.

Sixth starter Geoff Zdroik of Rubicon charged into third before a pair of caution flags were displayed in rapid succession for the spinning cars of Barrett Hummelmeier on lap 18 and Jonathon Baumann on lap 22.

Brass utilized the ensuing single-file restart to his advantage to duck underneath Thrun and gain the top spot on lap 23. The third and final caution flag came out on lap 24 when Hummelmeier spun in turn two.

Following a single-file green-white-checkered flag, Brass proved to be too much for his closest pursuers as he bolted away to nail down his first career PDTR B Mod main event win.

Geoff Zdroik placed third, Thrun wound up third, seventh starter Spencer Long of Sheboygan Falls finished fourth and eighth starter Brandon Knepprath rounded out the top five.

Bill Taylor Boltonville won the 12-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car B-main.

Austin Zdroik of Ashippun collected the victory in the 12-lap B Mod B-main.

Brad Mueller claimed fast qualifier honors in Super Six Late Model Series qualifying with a lap of 13.479 seconds.

Ben Schmidt earned the overall PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car fast qualifier award with a top lap of 12.645 seconds.

The 11th event of the 2024 PDTR campaign, which was sponsored by Kriete Truck Centers, drew a season-high 94 total entries, including 29 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars, 26 B Mods, 21 Dirt Kings Late Models and 18 Grand Nationals.

Arenz cues up pair of 8ths in IRA Wilmot, Angell Park action

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Travis Arenz racked up two eighth place A-main showings with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, Aug. 18. – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 21, 2024 – Although going about it in two different ways the end result was the same for Travis Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsports team in Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, Aug. 18.

With a Kenosha County Fair Night crowd looking on, Arenz’s night at Wilmot got off to a slow start with a late draw leading to a 22nd place qualifying run out of the 27 cars in attendance with a lap of 13.836 seconds.

The 17th-year competitor started eighth and placed one spot short of an A-main transfer spot with a seventh place showing in the first eight-lap IRA heat race. The 2021 and 2022 Midwest Sprint Car Association – Plymouth Dirt Track Racing champion then placed second after starting third in the 12-lap IRA B main to advance to the evening’s 30-lap IRA headliner.

As he has on a couple of other occasions this year, Arenz flipped the switch into hard charger mode in moving up from the 20th starting spot to come home with an impressive eighth place showing in the 30-lap IRA A-main.

“Like normal, I didn’t draw well, which caused us to qualify very late in the group at Wilmot,” Arenz said. “The track was pretty tricky as it was dry in some spots and had a lot of moisture in others. I didn’t hit my marks the best, so our outcome wasn’t where we needed to be. After starting deep in the heat race and realizing there wasn’t going to be a lot of passing happening, we had to run the B-main. We made quite a few adjustments to our setup and rolled out 20th for the A-main. I love racing at Wilmot and typically have good results there. After struggling early in the night, advancing 12 spots in the feature was what we needed. While doing maintenance on Sunday morning we found that our chassis is bent, which could be part of the struggle we had at Wilmot.”

One night later at Angell Park Speedway, Arenz enjoyed a much smoother and consistent night of racing. He opened by qualifying sixth overall in the 27-car field with a lap of 13.288 seconds before advancing from the third starting spot to place second in the third eight-lap IRA heat race.

Arenz then rolled off fourth before placing fifth in the first four-lap IRA dash to gain the ninth starting spot in the 30-lap main event.

The 2013 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Outlaw Compact Four-Cylinder and 2016 141 Speedway Northern Sport Mod champion negotiated his way through three caution flags and a red flag which included an open red period to register an eighth place main event finish.

The weekend pair of eighth place showings pushed Arenz’s number of top 10 A-main finishes to six in the 13 IRA Sprint Car Series events the Travis Arenz Motorsports Team has contested during the 2024 campaign.

“At Angell Park, we had a lot better qualifying position, and the heat race results put us in the dash,” Arenz said. “We started in the back of the dash, but it still allowed us a ninth place starting position in the feature. There’s not much to say about the feature results, as I bounced around that same position the entire race. All in all, we are ready to regroup and move on to Plymouth in a couple of weeks for the fair night race.

“I am still looking for another set of crew hands to help for the remainder of the season and, hopefully, for seasons to come,” he said. “Anyone with an interest can reach out to me for more info.”

Those interested in assisting the team as a crew member can send a direct message to Travis through the Travis Arenz Motorsports Facebook page.

Following an off weekend, the Travis Arenz Motorsports team will compete in a doubleheader Labor Day holiday weekend with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series starting Saturday, Aug. 31 during a Sheboygan County Fair at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

The Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars are also on the card. On-track action begins at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 1, the team will venture north to The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. for IRA Sprint Car Series action, along with the Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Car Series and Stock Cars.

Hartmann posts career-best IRA showing at Wilmot Raceway

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Austin Hartmann turned in his sixth top-10 A-main showing of the 2024 season with a ninth place finish in the 30-lap Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series main event during the Kenosha County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. – HW Designs photo

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 21, 2024 – As one of the most frequented tracks on the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series circuit, negotiating the nuances of Wilmot Raceway has been an ongoing work in progress for Austin Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing team during the past three seasons of IRA competition at the tricky three-eighths-mile semi-banked clay oval nestled in the tiny community of Wilmot, Wis.

Hartmann, who posted a strong fifth place A-main finish in an unsanctioned 410 Sprint Car race at Wilmot on May 6, 2023, scored his first top 10 main event showing in IRA competition at the venerable speed plant by placing ninth in the annual Kenosha County Fair Night racing program on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The evening started well for the third-year IRA 410 Sprint Car Series driver as he ripped off the sixth fastest qualifying time in the 27-car field with a lap of 13.241 seconds on the three-eighths-mile semi-banked clay oval.

Hartmann then turned in a fifth place showing after starting third in the third eight-lap IRA Sprint Car Series heat race to earn his fifth IRA dash appearance of the 2024 campaign.

After starting third and placing fourth in the second four-lap IRA dash, the 2020 Midwest Sprint Car Association – Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Award winner launched from eighth in the 30-lap IRA main event.

Hartmann hovered around the eighth, ninth and 10th positions throughout the event before turning in a ninth-place A-main showing in a race won by Greg Wilson.

It was Hartmann’s sixth top 10 A-main finish of the team’s 2024 campaign.

One night later, Hartmann and the team traveled to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. for the annual Corn Fest event with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Hartmann opened the night by qualifying 18th in the 27-car field with a lap of 13.762 seconds. From there, the fifth-year Winged Sprint Car competitor started and finished sixth in the third eight-lap IRA heat race to advance to the A-main.

After starting 16th in the 30-lap main event, Hartmann survived four race stoppages, including one red flag featuring an open red session, and drove a clean, consistent race to improve two positions on the way to a 14th place finish behind the winning car of Joe B. Miller.

“We had a good night at Wilmot,” Hartmann said. “We definitely didn’t need the caution in the feature. It broke our momentum. We didn’t have a great night at Angell Park. The car came to life finally with about 10 laps to go and I managed to get by a couple more cars before the checkered. We are looking forward to the IRA doubleheader at Plymouth and Sturgeon Bay over the Labor Day weekend.”

Following an off weekend, the 87A Hartmann Racing team will embark on a doubleheader Labor Day holiday weekend with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series starting Saturday, Aug. 31 during a Sheboygan County Fair at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

The Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars are also on the card with on-track action slated to begin at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 1, the team will venture north to The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. for the first-ever IRA Sprint Car Series event to be held at the slightly banked third-mile clay oval, along with the Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Car Series and Stock Cars.

Spectator gates open at 3 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Alex Pokorski tallies IRA 410 seat time, hones in on MSA 360 home stretch

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Alex Pokorski turned in an 18th place showing in his second career Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series A-main on Sunday, Aug. 18 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. – HW Designs photo

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 20, 2024 – Alex Pokorski and the members of the Akright Auto Racing Team tacked on a few more pages to their 410 Sprint Car notebook during the team’s third start of the 2024 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series season on Sunday, Aug. 18 in the annual Corn Fest event at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.

The 2023 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Most Improved Driver Award winner fired up the night by qualifying 22nd in the 27-car field after circling the historic third-mile clay oval in 13.858 seconds.

After rolling off eighth in the first IRA eight-lap heat race, Pokorski placed ninth, which put him in the 12-lap B main needing to finish in the top six to earn an A-main berth.

The West Bend, Wis. driver responded by advancing two spots from the eighth starting position to gain a berth in his second career 30-lap IRA 410 Sprint Car Series main event with a sixth place showing.

Pokorski survived four race stoppages, including a red flag leading to an open red period, to move up six spots from his 24th starting perch and claim an 18th place A-main finish in a race won by Joe B. Miller.

The result equaled Pokorski’s 18th place showing in his first career IRA 410 Sprint Car Series A-main at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, May 24.

“It was a fun night,” Pokorski said. “I feel pretty comfortable in the 410 car. We battled with engine heat issues all night. Hopefully, we can fix that.”

Pokorski was scheduled to compete in a Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car event on Saturday, Aug. 17, which was cancelled due to rain.

The Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team is gearing up for the final four races of the 2024 Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association season starting with a PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car event on Friday, Aug. 23 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

The 360 Sprint Cars will be joined by the Dirt Kings Late Model Tour, as well as the PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods for the final points night of the 2024 campaign for both divisions.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

The event will be available to view via live stream via watchfye.tv.

Alex Pokorski paces strong Akright Auto Racing Team Plymouth Dirt Track effort

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 13, 2024 – The father-son driving tandem of Alex and Paul Pokorski and the members of the Akright Auto Racing Team turned in one of the best overall performances of the 2024 season with both drivers posting top-10 A-main showings in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Alex Pokorski opened the evening by qualifying fifth overall in the 21-car PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car field after touring the third-mile clay oval in 12.680 seconds

After lining up fourth in the third eight-lap heat race, the fifth-year PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car competitor slipped past Billy Kreutz on lap five en route to a third-place showing.

Following the 10-car invert, the West Bend driver started the 25-lap main event from the seventh starting spot. Alex took advantage of the smooth, wide and multi-groove racing surface to advance to fourth after sweeping past Tony Wondra on lap 10.

A restart on lap 14, pushed Alex back to fifth in the running order, where he finished the race won by Ben Schmidt. It was Alex’s third top-five main event finish and eighth top-10 showing in 12 MSA events contested thus far during the 2024 campaign.

Alex heads into the final four events of the 2024 PDTR 360 Sprint Car campaign second in the chase for the division title, 27 points behind point leader Ben Schmidt.

“It was a lot of fun and the track was very racey,” Alex said. “I had a close call at the end when I hooked the cushion, which cost us a position or two. It ended up being a solid night.”

Paul Pokorski qualified seventh overall out of 21 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car entries after turning in a lap of 12.743 seconds.

He started the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race outside the front row before powering around polesitter Tony Wondra to take the lead in turn two of the opening lap.

The 32-year racing veteran held off T.J. Smith in the closing laps to wrap up his second heat race victory of the 2024 season.

The 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion took off from the fifth starting spot in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A-main and held his own inside the top 10 throughout the event on the way to a 10th place showing, which marked his second top-10 A-main finish of the 2024 season in six events behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A car.

“I thought last night went okay,” Paul said. “It seemed like the most consistent night we’ve had so far this year. The car was pretty good for qualifying, but my laps could’ve been a little smoother. I thought the heat race went really well. In the feature, we could’ve been a touch better. Overall, I’m happy with the way things went. I think for running a part-time schedule, we’re doing alright. It takes a little longer to learn things and make progress when we only run some of the races. I have to thank Aaron and Fred Pederson and Dan Hoerig for all their hard work each week on the 53A car whether I’m driving or Spyder [Akright] is driving.”

The Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team is gearing up for a doubleheader weekend of 360 and 410 Sprint Car racing competition. On Saturday, Aug. 17, Alex will compete with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

The program will include special guest appearances from the Midwest Legends Dirt Series and Street Stock divisions with the PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods also featured.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

For those unable to attend, the event will be live-streamed on www.watchfye.tv.

One night later, Alex is scheduled to wheel the team’s 410 Sprint Car with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. during the annual Corn Fest event.

The Badger Midgets will also be on the card. Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with open ceremonies slated at 6 p.m.

The event will be available to view via live stream at Floracing.com.

Anvelink steals A-main triumph, Mueller wears PDTR Super Six Late Model Series crown

Schmidt, Richards, Thomas bag A-main wins

Nick Anvelink of Bonduel claimed his third career Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Late Model A-main victory in the 30-lap 106.5 The Buzz Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model Series 2024 season finale main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 10, 2024 – In his first appearance of the 2024 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track, Nick Anvelink of Bonduel utilized a late-race restart to slip past Random Lake’s Brad Mueller of Random Lake on the way to a $5,000 victory in the 30-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 106.5 The Buzz Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model Series 2024 season finale A-main at the venerable third-mile clay oval in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

On the strength of a second place finish in the main event, Brad Mueller secured his second consecutive Super Six Late Model Series title and a record sixth Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Late Model championship.

Former PDTR and Midwest Sprint Car Association champion and current point leader Ben Schmidt of Plymouth captured the 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main

Jake Richards of Neshkoro scored a wire-to-wire victory in the 25-lap Oostburg Automotive Grand National main event.

Cole Thomas of Franklin survived an incident-plagued time-shortened 21-lap Sheboygan Flooring B Mod A-main to claim his second A-main victory of the season in PDTR competition.

Outside front-row starter Mike Mullen of Seymour used the high groove to move around polesitter Brad Mueller and secure the initial lead of the 30-lap Super Six Late Model Series main event.

On lap 5, Nick Anvelink, who started third, moved in to challenge the high-riding Mueller for second along the inside lane. The two celebrated veteran competitors exchanged the runner-up spot before Mueller cleared Anvelink to maintain the spot on lap 9.

Brad Mueller of Random Lake secured his second straight 106.5 The Buzz Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model Series title and track record sixth career Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Late Model championship with a second place finish in the 30-lap 2024 season finale main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

Meanwhile, Mullen caught up to the rear of the field on lap 9. Five laps later he found himself immersed in dense two-wide lapped traffic, which allowed Mueller and Anvelink to surge in to make it a three-way battle for the top spot.

With Mullen wedged in behind a pair of slower cars, Mueller used a high move in turn two on lap 16 to take over the top spot before the first of two caution flags appeared on lap 17 when Shawn Miller of Gillett spun in turn two.

On the restart, Anvelink dove low to power past Mullen and briefly challenge Mueller for the lead along the inside line of the smooth, slick, and multi-groove racing surface.

However, Mueller fended off Anvelink’s advances to maintain the lead along the cushion. The running order at the head of the pack stayed locked in place until the second caution flag flew on lap 27 when Kurt Moeller of Kaukauna spun along the back stretch.

Following a single-file restart, Anvelink reeled off a perfectly executed low-to-high short slider move to wrestle the top spot away from Mueller exiting turn four. The six-time WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour champion went on to secure his third career PDTR Late Model A-main victory and take home a big $5,000 first-place check in a rare appearance at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

“I saw Brad [Mueller] had his quarter panel ripped off, which probably wasn’t helping him near the end of the race,” Anvelink said. “I was able to get a run on that last restart, which ended up being just what we needed to end up with the win. They’ve done a great job with this series. I wished we would have been able to make it for more of these races this year, but it just didn’t work out for us schedule-wise. I have to thank everyone involved in making this happen. It was a fun race tonight.”

Mueller placed second to nail down back-to-back Super Six Late Model Series titles. In addition, Mueller moves to the top of the list of drivers who have competed in the PDTR Late Model division over the past 20 years by securing his sixth career track championship.

Mullen finished third, 2014 PDTR Late Model champion Mitch McGrath of Waukesha placed fourth after starting seventh and fourth starter Taylor Scheffler of Waukesha rounded out the top five.

The action was equally hot and heavy in the 25-lap 360 Sprint Car main event, as 1998 and 1999 Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified champion Billy Kreutz of Kiel jumped out to the lead from the pole position.

Former Akright Auto 360 Sprint Car champion and current point leader Ben Schmidt of Plymouth posted his second Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association A-main victory of the 2024 season in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos Racing season

On lap 4, 14-year-old 360 Sprint Car rookie Joseph Hintz of Burnett moved in from this third starting spot to challenge the cushion-pounding Kreutz along the low groove. Meanwhile, 2011 PDTR and MSA champion Ben Schmidt rode the high line from his sixth starting spot into third on lap 6.

Two laps later, Kreutz, Hintz and Schmidt became embroiled in a heated three-car tussle for the point with Hintz surging into the lead on lap 11 as Schmidt pulled off a slide job to roll past Kreutz into second exiting turn four.

On lap 13, Schmidt shot into the lead along the cushion in turn two. One lap later, the lone caution flag appeared following a Josh Bilicki of Menominee Falls spin in turn two.

Schmidt darted away from the field on the ensuing restart while Kreutz battled back to regain second from Hintz on lap 17.

The 25-year racing veteran cruised over the final 10 laps of the race to secure his second PDTR A-main victory and third overall MSA win of the 2024 campaign.

In addition, Schmidt moved into third place on the all-time PDTR 360 Sprint Car A-main victory list by claiming his 24th main event victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track, while also claiming his 45th career MSA A-main triumph to tie five-time MSA champion Brandon McMullen of Oshkosh for third on the all-time MSA victory list.

Kreutz notched a PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car career-best second place showing, Hintz was third, fourth starter T.J. Smith of Greenville placed fourth and seventh starter Alex Pokorski of West Bend completed the top five.

Polesitter Jake Richards outdueled outside front-row starter Jake Wiroll of Sheboygan to grab the lead on the first lap of the Grand National main event. By lap nine, Richards had built up a half-straightaway cushion over Wiroll.

Jake Richards of Neshkoro led flag-to-flag en route to his first career 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Oostburg Automotive Grand National A-main victory at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos Racing season

On lap 10, fourth starter Scott Kafka of Cleveland was dueling with Wiroll for second when a flat tire on Kafka’s machine brought out the first of three race stoppages.

With sixth starter Nick Schumacher of Eagle his new pursuer, Richards again powered away from the field on the restart as two-time PDTR Grand National champ and seven-time overall track champion at The Plymouth Dirt Track Brian Gilles of Plymouth slowed with a flat tire before Jared Weiss of Fond du Lac made contact with Gilles’ disabled car along the front stretch to produce another caution on lap 11.

A four-car incident, which blocked the backstretch, forced a red flag on lap 13. Following the final restart, Schumacher stayed close to Richards during the second half of the race, as action raged behind them with four drivers racing in close quarters for third place in the closing laps.

Richards went on to post his first career PDTR Grand National A-main victory in very limited appearances at The Plymouth Dirt Track, Schumacher finished second, seventh starter Steven Weber of Plymouth took third, 2019 PDTR Grand National champ Tyler Kulow of Plymouth placed fourth after starting eighth and defending PDTR Grand National-co-champion and current point leader Will Sorce of Franklin moved up from the 13th starting position to finish fifth.

Rookie Zachary Schmidt of West Bend assumed the early lead in the B Mod main event from the pole, while fifth starter Cole Thomas mounted an early charge to the front assuming second on lap 3 and taking over the lead from Schmidt with a low move in turn four.

Cole Thomas of Franklin notched his second 25-lap Sheboygan Flooring B Mod main event triumph of the 2024 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing campaign at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos Racing season

The first of five caution periods came on lap 6 with a five-car incident on turn two. By lap 9, Thomas had built up a huge half-lap advantage over seventh starter Spencer Long of Sheboygan Falls.

The ensuing 12 laps were interspersed with four more caution flags with Barrett Hummelmeier’s run from the 11th starting spot into second on lap 18 highlighting the green flag action.

The fifth caution flag displayed upon the completion of lap 21 prompted the race to end due to the 25-minute time limit.

Thomas posted his second PDTR B Mod A-main victory of the 2024 season and his career at The Plymouth Dirt Track. Hummelmeier finished second, Long wound up third, Brandon Knepprath of Boltonville moved up from the ninth starting position to place fourth and PDTR B Mod point leader Travis Schmidt of Plymouth advanced from the 12th starting spot to finish fifth.

Hunter Larson of Oshkosh won the B Mod B main.

Brad Mueller claimed fast qualifier honors in Super Six Late Model Series qualifying with a lap of 13.261 seconds.

Brandon Berth of Cascade earned the overall PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car fast qualifier award with a quick lap of 12.608 seconds.

The 10th event of the 2024 PDTR campaign, which was sponsored by Mayer Automotive, drew 79 total entries, including 23 B Mods, 21 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars, 20 Late Models and 15 Grand Nationals.

The A-main winners in each division received additional pay from Judy Deicher in memory of her late husband, Dave Deicher, who was a longtime supporter of racing at The Plymouth Dirt Track as a Winged Super Modified and Sportsman driver, as well as a flagman.

The next PDTR racing program on Saturday, Aug. 17 will include special guest appearances from the Midwest Legends Dirt Series and Street Stock divisions.

The PDTR 360 Sprint Cars, Grand Nationals and B Mods will also be in action.

Paul Pokorski lands familiar 4 in Plymouth top 10

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Paul Pokorski turned in a ninth place showing in the 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main guest driving for Alex Pokorski on Saturday, Aug. 3 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 6, 2024 – After campaigning a No. 4 car under the Pokorski Motorsports banner for 29 seasons, Paul Pokorski returned to the driver’s seat of the car his son, Alex, now pilots on a full-time basis for the Akright Auto Racing Team and turned a solid top-10 A-main showing in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 3.

With Alex off for the night to attend a wedding, Paul opened the night by qualifying 11th overall in the 25-car field with a lap of 13.407 seconds. The 32-year competitor rolled off from the fifth starting spot in the second eight-lap PDTR-MSA heat race needing a top five finish to transfer to the 25-lap A-main. However, Pokorski slipped back one spot to place sixth, which put him in the B main.

The 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion started second in the 12-lap B main and dueled throughout the race with polesitter Scott Conger before coming home with a second place showing to advance to the A-main.

“I was a little disappointed with the results from qualifying and the heat race,” Pokorski said. “I felt the car was down a bit on power, but I thought it may just be me. The B-main went about as well as expected. I had a really fun battle for the last four or five laps with Scott Conger. Scott’s a good friend and always a really clean racer. So, I had no concerns about running close to him and it was a lot of fun. I wish we had just been one spot better, but it really made no difference because we were both going to start the feature event.”

The West Bend, Wis. driver started 17th in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA main event and used the high and low side of the multi-groove racing surface to advance eight spots and secure a ninth place showing in a race won by Joseph Hintz.

Pokorski’s run from 17th to ninth netted him the Hard Charger Award in the 25-lap A-main.

“I didn’t have any grand plan in the A main,” Pokorski said. “We just tried some things outside of the ordinary to learn and make some progress. I was happy with the result. Going from 17th to ninth was about as well as I could have expected. We took the motor out on Sunday because I wasn’t happy with the way it was performing and we did find some issues. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the night. I’m sure we’ll get our engine figured out this week, so we, hopefully, will have a great night next week when Alex gets back in the car.”

Rookie Hintz tops veteran Goeden in PDTR 360 Sprint Car headliner

Schumacher, Lorier, Petska score Plymouth Dirt Track Racing A-main victories

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Joseph Hintz, a 14-year-old rookie driver from Burnett, captured his first career 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 3. – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 3, 2024 – Youth trumped experience as 14-year-old Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car rookie Joseph Hintz of Burnett edged 60-year-old open-wheel racing veteran and five-time track champion Donny Goeden of Kewaskum to claim his first career 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 3.

Nick Schumacher of Eagle made a rare appearance at The Plymouth Dirt Track well worth it with a wire-to-wire win in the 25-lap Oostburg Automotive Grand National main event.

Steve Lorier of Sheboygan notched his first main event triumph of the 2024 campaign in the 25-lap Sheboygan Flooring B Mod A-main.

Nick Petska of Spring Grove, Ill. claimed the victory in the 15-lap 106.5 The Buzz IRA Lightning Sprints main event.

Outside front row starter Justin Erickson of Plymouth outpowered polesitter Hayden Johnson of Campbellsport to grab the lead on the opening lap of the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event.

On lap 2, three-time PDTR 360 Sprint Car champion Donny Goeden rode the outside groove to move into second before vaulting past Erickson into the lead one lap later.

Meanwhile, fifth starter Joseph Hintz engaged in a spirited duel with third starter T.J. Smith of Greenville for the third spot on lap 4. Four laps later, Goeden caught the back of the field and sliced his way through slower traffic.

The first of two race stoppages appeared on lap 11 when Bill Taylor of Boltonville spun in turn three. On the restart, Hintz shot into second along the inside groove and quickly moved in to challenge the high-riding Goeden on the smooth, multi-groove racing surface.

The first-year 360 Sprint Car driver reeled in Goeden on lap 15 to mount a challenge for the top spot. Hintz hit his marks along the inside lane with precision to take over the top spot on lap 17 before impressively extending his lead to a full straightaway on lap 21.

With Hintz comfortably leading the pack, a red flag was displayed when Smith flipped in turn two on the white-flag lap. Hintz maintained the top spot along the low groove on the green-white-checkered flag restart and held off a final charge from Goeden along the cushion to secure his first career PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint A-main victory in just his sixth career 360 Sprint Car start.

Goeden, who began his racing career in the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Winged Super Modified division at Plymouth in 1985, had to settle for second, two-time PDTR and five-time MSA champion Kurt Davis of South Milwaukee placed third after starting seventh, Erickson placed fourth and sixth starter Kevin Karnitz of West Bend placed fifth.

With his victory, Hintz became the sixth different driver to claim a win in the nine MSA 360 Sprint Car main events contested during the 2024 campaign.

Nick Schumacher used his pole starting position to seize the lead from the start of the 25-lap Grand National headliner with 2022 PDTR Grand National champion Luke Scholten, who started fourth, sliding into second. On lap 9, Scholten bolted in to briefly challenge Schumacher for the lead on the tacky and smooth track surface.

However, Schumacher maintained the top spot and was building up a solid lead when the lone caution flag of the race appeared on lap 12 after Dustin Weiss of Iron Ridge and 2018 PDTR Grand National champ Tyler Kulow of Plymouth collided in turn four.

On the restart, Schumacher pulled away from Scholten and led the remainder of the event en route to his third career PDTR Grand National A-main victory and his first A-main triumph of the 2024 campaign.

Scholten placed second, Jeff Muehlbauer of Elkhart Lake, who started fifth, placed third, 2023 PDTR Grand National co-champion Will Sorce of Franklin took fourth after starting 11th, and two-time Grand National and six-time Plymouth track champion Brian Gilles of Plymouth charged up from the ninth starting spot to place fifth.

David Paskiewicz of Wind Lake grabbed the lead of the 25-lap B Mod A-main from the pole on the opening lap. On lap 2, third starter Spencer Long of Sheboygan Falls took over the second spot and moved into pressure Paskiewicz for the top spot.

A pair of back-to-back caution flags bunched the field on lap 7, which allowed seventh starter Steve Lorier to move in to hound Long for the lead starting on lap 9. However, Long fended off his advances until lap 20 when a slower car boxed in Long along the low groove, while Lorier rode the top of the track to snatch the lead away from Long in turn two on lap 23.

Steve Lorier of Sheboygan raced to his fifth career 25-lap Sheboygan Flooring B Mod A-main victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 3. – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

Lorier held on the rest of the way to notch his fifth career and first PDTR B Mod main event of the 2024 season.

Long took second, eighth starter Travis Schmidt of Plymouth placed third, 2022 PDTR B Mod champion Andy Welter of Cedarburg finished fourth after starting fifth and Barrett Hummelmeier of Beaver Dam bounced back after hitting the turn three wall on lap 7 to place fifth.

The start of the 20-lap IRA Lightning Sprints main event got off to a rough start when polesitter Brian Strane, Jr. of Paris, who came into the event as the series points leader and winner of all five 2024 IRA Lightning Sprints A-main races, hit an infield tire and flipped in turn two on the opening lap.

With Strane Jr. out of the race, Nick Petska moved up from his original third starting spot to the pole position when the race began. Petska then proceeded to open up a full straightaway cushion over Mark Heinert of Waukesha, who started fifth.

The second and final yellow flag appeared on lap two for the spinning car Max Brannam on lap 16 to set up a four-lap dash to the finish following a single-file restart.

Petska proved to be too strong for his challengers to overcome in the closing laps on the way to his first IRA Lightning Sprint A-main triumph of the 2024 campaign.

Heinert placed second, fourth starter Mike Neau of Pleasant Prairie took third, Tim Brannam of Holiday Hills, Ill, who started second, finished fourth and Ron Brannam of Holiday Hills, Ill. tallied a fifth place showing after starting ninth.

Scott Conger of Eagle claimed the overall PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car fast qualifier award with a quick lap of 13.101 seconds.

Mike Neau was the top qualifier in the IRA Lightning Sprints division with a lap of 13.966 seconds.

The ninth event of the 2024 PDTR campaign, which was sponsored by Pit Stop Pizza, drew 72 total entries, including 25 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars, 17 B Mods, 15 Grand Nationals and 15 IRA Lightning Sprints.

The program also included a coin and candy drop sponsored by VanDerVart Concrete and a coloring contest featuring prizes donated by Plymouth Dirt Track Racing, Donna Bader and Pedal Down Promotions.

The next PDTR racing program on Saturday, Aug. 10 features the finale of the 2024 106.5 The Buzz Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model Series with the 2024 champion set to be crowned.

Five-time PDTR Late Model champion Brad Mueller of Random Lake heads into the season-capping race with a four-point cushion over Taylor Scheffler and a 14-point lead over Justin Ritchie of New London.

The PDTR 360 Sprint Cars, Grand Nationals and B Mods will also be in action.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

The 2024 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Awards Ceremony is set to take place Saturday, Oct. 12 at Racers Hall in Plymouth at 7 p.m.

Hartmann conquers adversity to salvage solid IRA showings

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Austin Hartmann overcame mechanical issues to move up a combined eight positions and record a pair of top-15 A-main showings in Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action at Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, July 26 and The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 27. – HW Designs photo

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 31, 2024 – A doubleheader weekend of Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action at Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, July 26 and The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 27 presented Austin Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing team crew with a steady procession of mechanical maladies to untangle.

However, undaunted, the young team showed its resiliency in putting a car on the track capable of maneuvering up through the field and Hartmann delivered the precision moves on the track to match.

The weekend opened at the sprawling Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway commonly dubbed “the horsepower half-mile” for the seventh annual Harry Neitzel Tribute on Friday, July 26. However, motor issues kept Hartmann from registering a qualifying lap or producing a heat race result.

Ater the crew worked feverishly to figure out the issue, Hartmann fired off the 20-lap Harry Neitzel Tribute A-main from the 16th starting spot in the 19-car field. The third-year IRA 410 Sprint Car Series full-time competitor drove a solid race to improve three positions and come home with a 13th-place showing in a race won by Scotty Thiel.

One night later, the 87A Hartmann Racing team returned to its home track – The Plymouth Dirt Track – for the IRA’s second appearance of the 2024 campaign at the venerable third-mile clay oval.

The 2020 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Rookie of the Year Award winner turned in the 21st fastest qualifying lap in the 28-car field with a lap of 13.002 seconds.

After starting seventh and finishing sixth in the third IRA eight-lap heat race, the Plymouth, Wis. driver started 17th in the 30-lap main event. In a race that produced four stoppages on two red flags and two caution flags, Hartmann picked his way through the field to register a plus-five 12th place showing in a race won by Joel Myers Jr.

Overall, the weekend concluded with Hartmann advancing a total of eight positions in A-main competition and recording the team’s ninth top-15 A-main showing of the 2024 campaign.

“Fuel issues were the problem with the motor on Friday at Dodge County,” Hartmann said. “It was a whirlwind of a weekend. The hood was off the car a total of seven times on Friday and Saturday. Despite that, I’m glad we were able to move forward in both features. We’re fully focused on coming back stronger after the Knoxville Nationals break.”

After taking the next two weekends off with a break in the 2024 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series schedule, the 87A Hartmann Racing Team is slated to return to action with the IRA 410 Sprint Car Series for a fair-filled doubleheader weekend kicking off with the annual Kenosha County Fair event at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The all-open-wheel event will also feature the Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Car Series and the IRA Lightning Sprints.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 5:45 p.m. and racing scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m.

The IRA 2024 doubleheader weekend wraps up with the annual Corn Fest event at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, Aug. 18 with the Badger Midgets filling out the card.

Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. with engine heat at 5 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 6 p.m.

Arenz puts on back-to-front show in Plymouth IRA action

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 31, 2024 – With a total of 37 A-main victories covering four diverse racing divisions and a total of three track titles to his credit during his 17-year racing career, The Plymouth Dirt Track is a special place for Travis Arenz.

Considering his resume at the third-mile clay oval, strong performances at his home track shouldn’t come as a surprise. The latest show-stopping fete of Arenz’s impressive accomplishment-filled career came on Saturday, July 27 when “Mr. Excitement” came through the B main to record a stirring top-five showing in a Bumper to Bumper 410 Sprint Car Series A-main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

The night got off to an extremely slow start for the Sheboygan Falls, Wis. racer as he timed in 25th quick in the 28-car IRA field with a lap of 13.196 seconds on a rapidly drying out racing surface.

After being buried in the ninth starting position in the first eight-lap IRA heat race, Arenz advanced three spots to come home sixth to fall just one spot out of an automatic transfer to the 25-lap A-main.

Starting third in the IRA B-main, the 2021 and 2022 Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing champion came home second to earn a berth in the 25-lap headliner.

After rolling off from the 20th starting position, Arenz negotiated two red flags and a pair of caution periods while mounting a furious change from the back to the front of the field.

Utilizing the top, middle and bottom grooves of the dry, smooth and multi-groove Plymouth Dirt Track racing surface, Arenz bolted into the top 10 on lap 16. He then benefitted from a pair of caution flags during the final 10 laps of the race to weave his way past a slew of fast cars to advance to the checkered flag in fourth place behind race winner Joel Myers Jr.

Arenz’s plus-16 position A-main run netted him his third top-five and fourth top-10 main event showing in 11 IRA events during the 2024 campaign.

“As usual, I didn’t draw the best to start the night,” Arenz said. “When we were supposed to go out for engine heat, my car wouldn’t fire. We found a fueling issue. Once that was taken care of, it finally fired and we were able to hot lap. Qualifying was horrible. The car handled horribly and the motor fell on its face.

“I missed the setup a bit in the heat race, which caused us to have to run the B-main,” he said. “We transferred to the A-main and I was able to drive from 20th up to fourth. I went into the feature knowing I needed to be patient and hit my marks. I quickly started picking off cars each lap and just knew I had to stay consistent. This was an outcome we really needed.”

The team’s schedule for the remainder of the 2024 season will depend in part on available crew help.

“As for future racing, I would like to race as much as possible,” Arenz said. “However, that will include talking to the crew to see who can go to which events. Currently, I’m looking for another set of crew hands to help finish the year.”

Anyone interested in assisting the team as a crew member is invited to send a message to the Travis Arenz Motorsports Facebook page.

Following two weekends off, the Travis Arenz Motorsports team intends return to action with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series for a fair-filled doubleheader weekend kicking off with the annual Kenosha County Fair event at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug.

Alex, Paul Pokorski swap top-10s at Dodge County, Plymouth

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 30, 2024 – The last scheduled doubleheader weekend of the 2024 Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series season produced a garden variety of results while cultivating one top-10 A-main showing apiece for Akright Auto Racing Team drivers Alex and Paul Pokorski in MSA action at Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. for the seventh annual Harry Neitzel Tribute Race on Friday, July 26 and The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 27.

Returning to the site of his first MSA A-main victory on June 2, 2023, Alex Pokorski timed in ninth out of the 21 entries on hand at Dodge County with a lap of 19.380 seconds on the sprawling “horsepower half-mile” facility.

After starting second in the first MSA eight-lap heat race, Alex raced to his third heat race victory of the 2024 season. Following the dice roll invert, the fifth-year 360 Sprint Car racer started ninth in the 20-lap main event.

The 2023 MSA and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Most Improved Driver Award winner drove a steady race to rack up a solid seventh-place showing and nail down his sixth top-10 main event finish of the 2024 campaign in a race won by Brandon Berth.

“Racing at Dodge County was fun,” Alex said. “I like racing there. I got a perfect start and was able to set sail in the heat race to get the win. I wish we would’ve been able to finish a little better in the feature.”

On Saturday, July 27, Alex posted the 13th fastest qualifying lap in the 23-car Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-MSA 360 Sprint Car field in 13.774 seconds.

He then started fifth and placed fourth in the third eight-lap heat race to earn the 13th starting position in the MSA portion of the Harry Neitzel Tribute Race main event. The race got off to a rough start for Pokorski as he collided with the spinning car of Justin Erickson in turn two on lap 3, which resulted in him retreating to the work area. Following some quick crew work, Pokorski returned to the track just in time to restart the race at the rear of the field.

Pokorski then put together an impressive run back to the front over the final 22 laps to secure a 12th-place showing in a race won by Kurt Davis.

“Our night at Plymouth was a bit rocky,” Pokorski said. “Qualifying didn’t go our way. The heat race was better against tough competition. The feature did not start well with the wreck. The crew did a great job changing a shock and a radius rod to get me back out. The race after that point was fun. The track was pretty even on the top and bottom. We got back past 10 cars or so, which was good.”

Paul Pokorski made his fifth start of the 2024 season in the seat of Spyder Akright’s 53A car for PDTR-MSA action at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, July 27.

After earning the fast qualifier award in his most recent outing in the 53A car during the rain-shortened PDTR-MSA program on Saturday, July 13, the 32-year racing veteran qualified ninth overall in the 23-car field with a lap of 13.658 seconds.

Paul then lined up on the outside of the front row in the second eight-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race. He got a good jump at the start and led every lap en route to his first heat race victory of the 2024 campaign.

Following the dice roll invert, Paul claimed the pole position in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event.

After a rough start, which saw him fall back to ninth on lap six, Paul used the low groove to power back up to the fifth spot on lap 14. However, the 2024 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion lost three spots in the final stretch of the race to register an eighth-place showing, which was his first top-10 main event finish of the 2024 season.

“Qualifying went okay and the result was about what I expected,” Paul said. “We had a red flag during the session that negated what I think might’ve been my best lap, but that’s the way it goes. We made some pretty significant changes before the heat race and they did what I hoped they would do and the car was really good.

“In the feature, I just made the mistake of not committing to the top at the start,” he said. “Instead, I decided to sort of run a slide job line into the corner through the middle. It didn’t work! I ended up getting stuck in the middle with cars on both sides through one and two and lost a bunch of spots. I moved up as the race went on, and the car felt pretty good until about the last six laps. So, I started to hunt around, which was a mistake on my part again. I did get going pretty well on the top, but with only two laps or so left, there was only so much to be gained. Overall, it wasn’t too bad of a night. I just hate backing up in a main event.”

With Alex off to attend a wedding, Paul is scheduled to fill in behind the wheel of Alex’s No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car for the next PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car event this Saturday, Aug. 3 at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

The PDTR Grand Nationals, B Mods, IRA Lightning Sprints and High School Racing Association will also be in action.

The program will feature a kids’ coin and candy drop sponsored by VanDerVart Concrete, as well as a coloring contest with prizes for the winners.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Kurt tops Tyler in Davis family 1-2 PDTR 360 Sprint Car finish

Myers Jr., Sandholm earn initial A-main victories

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Two-time Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car champion Kurt Davis of South Milwaukee topped his son, Tyler, to rack up 26th career Akright Auto PDTR 360 Sprint A-main victory in the 25-lap main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 27.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 27, 2024 – If you were to describe the eighth Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program of the 2024 season on Saturday, July 27 in one word, “ordinary” most certainly wouldn’t be it.

Whether it was a father-son 1-2 finish, inspired runs from the back to the front of the field, a heaping helping of slide jobs, a pair of A-main leaders meeting misfortune in the same race, a father driving his daughter’s car to an A-main win or two  incidents involving hard impacts with the outer wall and fence, action in the Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars, PDTR B Mods and the visiting Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car divisions provided Plymouth Dirt Track Racing fans with an abundance of wheel-to-wheel entertainment.

Two-time Akright Auto 360 Sprint Car champion Kurt Davis of South Milwaukee bested a career-best run from his son, Tyler, to capture his first A-main victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track in over three years as the Davis’ achieved a rare 1-2 father-son showing in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA main event.

After the first two leaders encountered misfortune, Joel Myers Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif. nailed down a victory in the 30-lap IRA 410 Sprint Car Series main event.

Mike Sandholm of Oconomowoc made his first start in the car normally wheeled by his daughter, Miranda, a memorable one as he led wire-to-wire en route to victory in the 25-lap PDTR B Mod A-main.

In the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event, polesitter Bill Taylor of Boltonville raced into the lead on the drop of the green flag as Kurt Davis, who started fourth, jumped to the high groove of the third-mile clay oval to challenge third starter T.J. Smith of Greenville for second.

The first caution of two cautions appeared on lap 3 when Justin Erickson of Plymouth spun in turn two and collected Clayton Rossmann of Wadsworth, Ill, T.J. Haddy of Waupun and Alex Pokorski of West Bend. All three drivers retreated to the work area before rejoining the race at the rear of the field on the ensuing restart.

Taylor continued to hold down the lead when the race resumed while Kurt Davis stormed into second place along with the cushion on lap 7. Three laps later, the all-time winningest driver in the 25-season history of the Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association powered his way past Taylor to secure the lead on the slick, smooth and multi-groove racing surface.

The second and final caution flag was displayed on lap 13 when Taylor and Brandon Berth of Cascade were involved in an incident in turn two during a four-car duel for second. Both drivers were able to return to the race.

Following the restart, Kurt’s son, Tyler Davis of Franklin, moved up from the sixth starting spot to shoot past Smith into second on lap 14 as ninth starter Robbie Pribnow charged into third along the outside line.

With five laps to go, Kurt Davis caught the rear of the field and had to deal with a swarm of slower cars, which allowed Tyler Davis to reel in his father.

With one lap to go, Tyler pulled to within striking distance his father. However, Kurt Davis proved to be the top Davis family finisher on this occasion as he held on by a car length to capture his first victory in PDTR 360 Sprint Car competition since May 8, 2021, as well as his 26th career PDTR 360 Sprint Car A-main triumph and MSA A-main leading 65th career A-main win.

In his 39th season of competition, Kurt Davis’ PDTR 360 Sprint Car win moved him to within seven victories of all-time PDTR A-main victory leader Brandon McMullen of Oshkosh, who currently sits at the top of the heap at The Plymouth Dirt Track with 33 wins.

The win also helped Kurt Davis to stretch his lead at the top of the MSA 360 Sprint Car all-time A-main victory list to 13 over current runner-up Danny Schlafer of Sussex, who has 52 MSA 360 Sprint Car A-main victories to his credit. It was Davis’ first MSA win since May 15, 2022 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.

“I’ve been going through the year doubting myself – am I too old, did I lose some stuff?” Kurt Davis said. “I may be a little bit more out of shape. I may have lost a bit of timing, but this one’s for the old guys. As for running the number 39 this year, we lost Cole Possi last year. The Possi family have been great friends to me. I’m glad I could at least pay them back for all their years of friendship and support with a victory.”

Tyler Davis claimed a career-best second place showing, Pribnow placed third, Smith wound up fourth and Chris Clayton of Waldo mounted an inspired run from the 20th starting spot to secure a fifth place showing in his first appearance of the 2024 season in PDTR and MSA 360 Sprint Car competition.

The 30-lap IRA A-main proved to overflow with action in various ways. Polesitter and early race leader Danny Schlafer of Sussex took the lead at the start before the red flag appeared when Mike Reinke of Howards Grove made hard contact with the turn four wall and flipped on lap 3.

Schlafer controlled the restart and hit lapped traffic on lap 9 as second starter Jake Neuman of New Berlin, Ill., two-time IRA champion Jake Blackhurst of Hanna City, Ill., who started fourth, fifth starter Blake Nimee of Oswego, Ill. and Joel Myers Jr. who started eighth, waged an epic slide job-laden battle for third.

After leading the first 11 laps of the event, Schlafer made contact with a lapped car on lap 12, which launched his No. 25 car on a series of flips into the turn one fence.

With Schlafer out of the race, second starter Jake Neumann of New Berlin, Ill. assumed the top spot until his 3N machine rolled to a stop in turn three on lap 20 to become the second race leader to drop out of the event over the span of eight laps.

Blackhurst inherited the lead with Myers Jr. and Max Guilford of Aukland, New Zealand, who started 11th, lurking close behind. The fourth and final stoppage of the race occurred with five laps to go when Ryan Zielski of Oconomowoc spun.

The closing laps saw Blackhurst, Myers Jr. and Nimee relentlessly duel for the top spot as the trio reeled off slide job after slide job. Myers Jr. eventually swept into the lead along the high line. At the same time, Nimee ducked under Blackhurst utilizing the low groove as the trio raced three-wide coming out of turn four on lap 27.

Myers Jr. surged ahead of Nimee for good on lap 28 with Guilford charging back into the top three as the checkered flag flew to cap the action-packed race with Myers Jr. collecting his first career IRA A-main triumph.

Nimee finished second, Guilford wound up third, two-time PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car champion Travis Arenz of Sheboygan Falls charged up 16 spots from the 20th starting position to place fourth and Blackhurst finished fifth.

Mike Sandholm of Oconomowoc picked up his first career 25-lap Sheboygan Flooring B Mod main event triumph at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 27.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

Filling in for his daughter, Miranda, Mike Sandholm grabbed the lead on the opening lap of the 25-lap PDTR B Mod A-main.

Sandholm held down a solid cushion over Brad Buckman of Kiel before the first of three caution flags appeared on lap 7 when Scott Quarnstrom of Lake Villa, Ill. spun in turn four.

Sandholm maintained the top spot on the restart as fifth starter Brandon Knepprath of Boltonville slipped into second place on lap 8 with Hunter Larson of Oshkosh, who started seventh taking over third.

The second caution flag appeared on lap 9 for a six-car incident in turn two. After fending off Larson’s challenge for second, Knepprath set his focus on tracking down Sandholm.

As the leaders hit slower traffic, Knepprath remained highly determined as he remained within striking distance when the third and final caution period occurred on lap 19. When the race resumed Knepprath stayed glued to Sandholm’s bumper and stayed there straight through to the finish.

However, Sandholm proved to have just enough to claim his first career PDTR B Mod main event victory. Knepprath finished a career-best second, Larson wound up third, 11th starter Travis Schmidt of Plymouth charged up from the 11th starting spot to finish fourth and Barrett Hummelmeier of Beaver Dam, advanced from the 12th starting position to place fifth.

Jake Blackhurst was the top qualifier in the IRA 410 Sprint Car ranks with a lap of    11.882 seconds.

Clayton Rossmann claimed fast qualifier honors in PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car group qualifying with a time 13.365 of seconds.

The eighth event of the 2024 PDTR campaign, which was sponsored by Hopf Farms, featured 72 total entries, including 28 IRA 410 Sprint Cars, 23 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars and 21 B Mods.

The next Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program on Saturday, Aug. 3 will feature the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars, Grand Nationals, B Mods, IRA Lightning Sprints and the High School Racing Association.

The program will also include the VanDerVart Concrete Coin and Candy Drop, along with a coloring contest, which will feature prizes for the winners.

Berth goes back-to-back in MSA Harry Neitzel Tribute at Dodge County

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 26, 2024 – Brandon Berth of Cascade used a strong start and an even better finish to secure his second straight 20-lap Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Harry Neitzel Tribute Race victory and become the event’s first repeat winner Friday, July 26 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis.

Polesitter Scott Conger of Eagle jumped into the lead on the drop of the green flag in one of the MSA’s most prestigious annual events before outside front row starter Brandon Berth used a huge run down the backstretch to power his way into the top spot with a well-executed low move in turn three.

By lap two, 2011 MSA champion Ben Schmidt of Plymouth had maneuvered his way into fourth place from his eighth starting position. One lap later, he bolted into third in the running order.

Two laps later, Berth had built up a sizable lead gap over Conger and the fast-closing Schmidt. On lap 5, Schmidt wrestled second away from Conger and quickly set his sights on Berth.

Five laps later, Berth set out on the task of working his way through the rear of the field. At the same time, two-time Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association champ Scotty Neitzel of Beaver Dam, who was in the seat of Lance Fassbender’s familiar purple No. 7 car, vaulted his way into third from the sixth starting spot.

On lap 16, Berth was bottled up in dense lapped traffic as Tony Wondra of Campbellsport and Bill Taylor of Boltonville dueled side-by-side for position in front of him.

With Berth bogged down behind the two cars, Schmidt swooped in to mount a challenge for the top spot.

One lap later, Berth used a daring move to split Wondra and Taylor in turn two shortly before Taylor’s car dropped off the pace and slowed along the backstretch to bring out the lone caution flag of the race.

With a single-file restart in place with less than five laps remaining, Schmidt dipped low in turn one in an attempt to oust the top spot away from the sixth-year Sprint Car competitor. However, Berth successfully fended off the spirited advances of the 44-time MSA 360 Sprint Car Series and three-time Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series A-main winner.

One lap later, Schmidt attempted a similar low move entering turn three, but Berth again denied the 25th-year veteran’s challenge. Berth then pulled away over the final two circuits to secure his second consecutive MSA Harry Neitzel Tribute Race triumph, second main event win of the 2024 season and his fourth career MSA A-main victory.

Schmidt had to settle for second; Neitzel placed third driving for Lance Fassbender, who continues to recover from serious burns suffered at The Plymouth Track on June 15; Robbie Pribnow of Lomira finished fourth after starting seventh and 10th starter Kevin Karnitz of West Bend rounded out the top five.

“When saw him [Ben Schmidt] peak his nose in there after the restart, I hoped I had enough to hold him off and thankfully we did,” Berth said. “We were fortunate enough to win this race last year and I didn’t think we would get another one, especially back-to-back. I didn’t get to know Harry [Neitzel] very well, but I know what he meant to the area Sprint Car community and the MSA. I like racing with these guys – the whole MSA crew is a great group to be around. It’s awesome to get the chance to have fun racing with them and also be able to go out and get a win like this. It’s a dream come true.”

With his second victory in the event, Berth moves to the top of the MSA 360 Sprint Car Harry Neitzel Tribute Race winners list, which includes five-time MSA champion Kurt Davis (2017), Kevin Karnitz of West Bend (2018), Jim Melis of Glenbeulah (2019), five-time MSA champion Brandon McMullen of Oshkosh (2020) and two-time MSA champion Travis Arenz of Sheboygan Falls (2022).

The event, which fell victim to rain in 2021, honors the universally respected Neitzel, who was one of the MSA’s biggest supporters.

The 10th MSA event of the 2024 season drew a solid field of 21 MSA 360 Sprint Cars to the sprawling “horsepower half mile” Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway facility.

Ben Schmidt earned the MSA 360 Sprint Car fast qualifier award with a top lap of 18.810 seconds in group qualifying.

Eight-lap MSA heat race victories went to Alex Pokorski, Scotty Neitzel and Ben Schmidt.

After the MSA competes at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 27, the 2024 MSA season continues at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 3 with gates opening at 4:30 p.m., qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Following hiatus, Arenz returns to IRA action for three-race western swing

Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

After nearly six weeks away from competition due to motor woes, Travis Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsports were back in action for a three-race swing through Minnesota and North Dakota with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series July 18 through July 20. – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 24, 2024 – After sitting on the sidelines for nearly six weeks with motor issues, Travis Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsport Team got back in the saddle again for the three-race Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and Northern Outlaw Sprint Association swing through Minnesota and North Dakota Thursday, July 18 through Saturday, July 20.

In his first appearance at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn., Arenz opened the tripleheader race weekend by qualifying third in Flight A and 13th overall in the 36-car field with a lap of 14.345 seconds on the three-eighths-mile clay oval on Thursday, July 18.

The 17th-year competitor finished seventh after starting third in the third eight-lap IRA-NOSA heat race before starting second and finishing third in the 12-lap B main to earn a spot in the 25-lap headliner.

After starting 23rd, the 2021 and 2022 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car champion moved up nine spots to place 16th in a race won by Mark Dobmeier.

One night later, the team moved on to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. for the first of back-to-back nights at the high-banked quarter-mile clay oval.

The Sheboygan Falls, Wis. driver clocked in fifth in Flight A and sixth overall in the 40-car field in IRA-NOSA qualifying with a time of 10.393 seconds. He then started and finished second in the first IRA-NOSA eight-lap heat race to advance to the 30-lap main event.

Arenz fired off from the 11th starting spot and improved three positions to record a solid eighth place finish in another race won by Mark Dobmeier.

In the final night of the three-race swing at River Cities Speedway on Saturday, July 20, Arenz turned in the ninth fastest qualifying time in Flight A and 23rd in overall qualifying in 10.668 seconds. He then finished second from the fifth starting spot in the first eight-lap IRA-NOSA heat race to claim the 11th starting position in the 35-lap headliner.

Fourteen laps into the event, Arenz’s evening ended following an incident in turn three while running 11th. He was credited with a 22nd place finish.

“I was definitely going crazy without being able to compete for the last handful of weeks, but I was thankful to be able to go to a new track and return to River Cities last week,” Arenz said. “I would like to say driving a Sprint Car is like riding a bike. In some ways it is. However, there are a lot of things that go into our operation that benefit us much more when we compete weekly.

“As for my performance, I would have preferred a better outcome,” he said. “Our crew was smaller than normal, so the few people we had were asked to take on more responsibility. I missed some of my marks on the track, and I missed the set ups a touch. But all in all, I’m glad to be back at the track competing.”

The Travis Arenz Motorsports team is scheduled to compete in a doubleheader weekend with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars, which kicks off with the annual Harry Neitzel Tribute Race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, July 26. The Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars and IMCA Modifieds will also be in action.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with warm-ups at 6 p.m. and hot laps to follow before opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m.

The team’s doubleheader racing weekend wraps up with a Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 27. The Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars and Sheboygan Flooring B Mods are also on the card.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with “on-track action” scheduled to commence at 5:30 p.m.

All 2024 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series events will be streamed live on FloRacing.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 24, 2024 – Austin Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing crew made a long 621-mile one-way trek for a challenging three-race swing through Minnesota and North Dakota pay off with a career-best showing at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. on Friday, July 19 to highlight the team’s entry in the third annual Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series – Northern Outlaw Sprint Association. Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings Mini Series.

Hartmann opened the weekend by timing in sixth in Flight A and overall in the 36-car field with a lap of 14.097 seconds in the 87A Hartmann Racing team’s first appearance at the three-eighths-mile Norman County Raceway in Ada. Minn. on Thursday, July 18.

After starting and finishing second in the second IRA-NOSA eight-lap heat race, Hartmann was involved in an unusual incident before the start of the 25-lap main event, which resulted in contact with the car of Laela Eisenschenk, which had spun out on the four-wide parade lap.

Following a trip to the work area to change a right rear tire, Hartmann started the event at the rear of the field in the 23rd position. The third-year IRA competitor drove a consistent and level-headed race while negotiating four more caution periods to come home 14th in a race won by Mark Dobmeier.

One night later, the team traveled to Grand Forks, N.D. for the first half of back-to-back weekend events at the high-banked quarter-mile River Cities Speedway on Friday, July 19.

Hartmann qualified second in Flight B and seventh overall in the 40-car field with a lap of 10.416 seconds before starting fourth and finishing fifth in the fourth eight-lap IRA-NOSA heat race.

After lining up on the pole of the first four-lap IRA-NOSA dash, Hartmann posted his first career dash victory and the initial pole position of his Sprint Car career for the evening’s 30-lap main event.

Following two false starts, Hartmann accelerated into the lead on the opening lap to pace an A-main race for the first time in his five-year Sprint Car career. The Plymouth, Wis. racer remained at the point for the first 11 laps before eventual race winner Mark Dobmeier maneuvered around Hartmann to gain the top spot on lap 12.

After Scotty Thiel and Andy Pake slipped past the 87A machine during the final three laps, Hartmann recorded his initial top-five main event finish by coming home with a career-best fourth place A-main finish.

In the final event of the team’s three-race western swing at River Cities Speedway on Saturday, July 20, Hartmann qualified 12th in Flight B and 20th overall in the 42-car field with a lap of 10.644 seconds. He then started sixth and finished sixth in the third IRA-NOSA heat race.

Hartmann qualified for the A-main by placing third in the 12-lap IRA-NOSA B-main from the fourth starting spot.

The 2020 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Award winner rolled off 23rd and moved up seven spots to place 16th in the 30-lap IRA-NOSA main event, which was won by Mark Dobmeier.

“Man, it felt good for our team to finally put together a solid night at River Cities on Friday night,” Hartmann said. “I would’ve liked to have been a couple of spots better, but a solid fourth place finish is pretty damn good. We were starting to think we couldn’t even buy luck. The weekend had its ups and downs with me having two weeks out of the seat and getting familiar with a brand-new car.

“I’d say we’re onto something good,” he said. “I’m so proud of this team for how far we have come. We’ve battled with multiple problems throughout the season, but that’s racing. We’re knocking on the door for that first win. I’m excited for a couple of nights of racing back home this weekend.”

The 87A Hartmann Racing Team is set to compete in a doubleheader weekend with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series, which kicks off with the annual Harry Neitzel Tribute Race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, July 26. Post delivers career-best PDTR 360 Sprint Car performance

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 23, 2024 – In his third season behind the wheel of a Sprint Car, Randy Post established not one, but two career firsts in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 20.

Post opened his breakout night by turning in the 12th fastest qualifying lap in the 23-car field in a time of 13.793 seconds. The Oostburg, Wis. driver then lined up on the pole of the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and went on to lead every lap on the way to his first career heat race victory in the seat of a 360 Sprint Car.

The 10-car main event inversion dice roll landed Post on the pole of the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A-main. The former Street Stock competitor settled into second in the running order behind eventual race winner T.J. Smith on the opening lap of the main event.

Post maintained the runner-up spot through the first 13 laps until Ben Schmidt took over second on lap 14. As the leaders worked through thick lapped traffic, Brandon Berth snuck past to move Post to third when a red flag was displayed after Ben Schmidt hit the turn three wall and flipped on lap 18.

The final seven laps saw Justin Erickson, Alex Pokorski and T.J. Haddy slip past before Post came home with a career-best sixth place A-main showing.

“We didn’t really do a whole lot different for qualifying,” Post said. “We changed our starting stagger and just went into it with a mentality to go out and see what happens. The heat win was a first in the Sprint Car. We had a few heat wins in the Street Stock in 2021. But those didn’t feel nearly as good as this one did.

“After watching the track evolve throughout the rest of the heat races, I knew no matter what kind of track work they did, it was going to dry out,” he said. “I was hoping the track would be smooth, so we tried some new shock adjustments and a few different small adjustments to the car with a goal of finishing in the top five, while trying not to put too much pressure on getting a particular result. We just wanted to have fun and try out some new adjustments. I was very pleased with the way the race went and I was very, very pleased with the results.”

The Randy Post Racing Team will return to action with the Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series for the annual Harry Neitzel Tribute Race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, July 26. The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and IMCA Modifieds will also be in action.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with warm-ups at 6 p.m. and hot laps to follow before opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m.

Post will complete a doubleheader weekend with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-MSA 360 Sprint Car Series at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, July 27, which will also feature the third scheduled Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series event of the 2024 campaign at The Plymouth Dirt Track. The Sheboygan Flooring B Mods round out the card.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with “on-track action” scheduled to commence at 5:30 p.m.
