(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) October 18, 2023 – A gripping fictional mystery drawing inspiration from her personal life experiences living in Lake Tahoe, Calif. forms the intriguing foundation of “Voices from Tahoe” – the first novel from Manitowoc, Wis. author Barbara Welnetz.

Welnetz’s first book release delivers a suspense-filled plotline featuring a diverse and rich collection of fictional characters and locations inspired by those she encountered during her time serving as the general manager of a grocery store nestled near the shores of Lake Tahoe.

“I was prompted to write ‘Voices from Tahoe’ due to memories and dreams of my life on the west shore of Lake Tahoe,” Welnetz said. “I believe it was my destiny to become general manager of the local grocery store. Since it was the hub of the community, my world revolved around the lives of the people who lived there. My novel includes many similar experiences from those days in the early 1970s when the small community of Tahoma first grew and prospered.”

With the memories of her experiences in Lake Tahoe still fresh in her mind, Welnetz’s time working at the Manitowoc Public Library proved to push her book writing dreams to fruition.

“After retirement, I moved to the Midwest and became employed at the local library in Manitowoc, Wisconsin,” Welnetz said. “While working at the Manitowoc Public Library preparing new books for circulation, I was inspired to write my first novel based on the years I lived in Lake Tahoe.”

One of Welnetz’s main goals in writing “Voices from Tahoe” was to highlight the beauty and splendor of the Lake Tahoe area, while creating a story of how three men impact a recently divorced woman’s life in very different ways, after she relocates from Wisconsin to Lake Tahoe to take a job as the general manager of a local grocery store.

“The fictional characters in the book became alive as I recalled the people and places I loved in my early adulthood,” Welnetz said. “While the grocery store was indeed my passion, the best part of life was the beauty and nature which surrounded me every day. I hope readers come away with a desire to visit this incredible place. I also hope newly divorced women who read my novel might find the courage to move across the country, or the world, and start a new life of their own.”

Published through Pedal Down Promotions of Manitowoc, Wis., Welnetz’s romantic suspense novel “Voices from Tahoe” marks the first of what she hopes will be additional book releases in the future.

“My next book endeavor is in the works with an anticipated release in late 2024,” Welnetz said. “The novel is based in the remote Upper Peninsula of Michigan where a young woman finds herself facing a desperate life struggle of unimaginable enemies.”

The public launch of Welnetz’s “Voices from Tahoe” romantic mystery novel is set to take place during the second annual Lakeshore Book Show and Author Signing Presented by Pedal Down Promotions at Sabbatical Brewing Co. in Manitowoc, Wis. on Saturday, Nov. 4. The event, which will feature 27 additional local and regional authors, is set to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
