(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) April 10, 2024 – Coming off of a breakthrough 2023 Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car season, the Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team is gearing up to contest the full MSA schedule, while mixing in a handful of 410 Sprint Car events during the upcoming 2024 campaign.

The 2023 season saw Pokorski entrench himself as a top contender in the MSA and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car ranks in his fourth overall and second full-time season in the Sprint Car ranks.

Following a 2022 campaign that yielded a mixed bag of results, as well as a 15th place showing in the final MSA point standings and a 14th place finish in the PDTR points race, Pokorski took a big leap forward throughout the 2023 campaign displaying both speed and consistency in the seat of the Spyder Akright-owned Akright Auto Racing Team No. 4 360 Sprint Car.

Along with capturing his first career MSA 360 Sprint Car A-main victory at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, June 2, Pokorski tallied a total of 12 top-five, 21 top-10 and 23 top-15 A-main showings in 24 MSA events during his 2023 campaign. In addition, Pokorski collected four heat race victories and two fast qualifier awards in MSA 360 Sprint Car action.

After advancing from 14th in 2022 to fourth in the 2023 PDTR 360 Sprint Car point standings and moving up from 15th to fourth in the final 2023 MSA 360 Sprint Car Series points race, Pokorski secured the 2023 Most Improved Driver Award in both PDTR and MSA competition.

In addition to another full season of MSA 360 Sprint Car action, Pokorski will dip his toes into the 410 Sprint Car waters by running 4-5 events in 2024.

The Akright Auto Racing Team’s first event of the 2024 season will mark Pokorski’s first career 410 Sprint Car start with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association Series at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, April 20.

On Saturday, April 27, Pokorski will launch the 24-race 2024 MSA-PDTR campaign at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

“The off-season has been a lot of work getting two cars together [360 and 410 Sprint Car], but we have been fortunate to have plenty of help,” Pokorski said. “We are planning to run the full MSA schedule as well as 4-to-5 IRA shows.

“My goals for the 2024 season are to improve on what we did last year, win a couple more races and get some experience in the 410,” he said.

In addition, Pokorski’s father, Paul, who wrapped up his stellar career as a regular full-time competitor at the conclusion of the 2021 season, is expected to make selected starts in the seat of Spyder Akright’s 53A PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car in 2024.

The 32-year veteran competed in 11 PDTR-MSA events during the 2023 campaign, posting one top-five, four top-10 and six top-15 A-main finishes to go along with one B main victory.

The highlight of Paul’s 2023 season was a third-place podium A-main finish at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Aug. 12. With Paul sharing driving duties with Spyder Akright, the 53A Akright Auto car finished 14th in the 2023 PDTR and MSA 360 Sprint Car point standings while competing in all 17 PDTR and 21 of 24 MSA events in 2023.

Breakthrough 2023 campaign vaults Alex Pokorski to most improved, top-five status

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) November 28, 2023 – In his fourth overall and second full-time season behind the wheel of a 360 Sprint Car, Alex Pokorski firmly established himself as a consistently strong, top-flight competitor in the Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car competition throughout the 2023 campaign.

Following an up-and-down debut season in the seat of the Spyder Akright-owned Akright Auto Racing Team No. 4 car, which saw him place 15th in the final MSA point standings and 14th in the PDTR points race in 2022, the West Bend, Wis. driver showcased his skills out right of the gate with a new Triple X chassis, fresh motor and updated equipment at his disposal in 2023.

While competing in all 24 events during the 2023 MSA-PDTR campaign, Pokorski earned his first career MSA 360 Sprint Car A-main victory at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, June 2, while notching a total of 12 top-five, 21 top-10 and 23 top-15 A-main showings. In addition, Pokorski tallied four heat race victories and two fast qualifier awards during the 2023 season.

After advancing from 14th in 2022 to fourth in the 2023 PDTR 360 Sprint Car point standings and moving up from 15th to fourth in the final 2023 MSA 360 Sprint Car Series points race, Pokorski claimed the 2023 Most Improved Driver Award in both PDTR and MSA competition.

In addition, Pokorski’s father, Paul, who wrapped up his stellar career as a regular full-time competitor at the conclusion of the 2021 season, returned to the cockpit on a limited basis in Spyder Akright’s 53A PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car. The 31-year veteran competed in 11 PDTR-MSA events during the 2023 campaign, posting one top-five, four top-10 and six top-15 A-main finishes to go along with one B main victory.

Alex Pokorski roared out of the gate to record a career-best equaling fifth place showing in the 2023 PDTR 360 Sprint Car season opener at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 6.

One week later, Pokorski charged from his 10th starting position to earn his first career A-main podium finish with a third place effort at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 13.

On Saturday, May 20, Pokorski was running second in A-main action when he was collected in an incident involving two slower cars. After the crew made repairs in the pit area, the fourth-year 360 Sprint Car racer rebounded to salvage a 14th place finish.

The Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team ventured to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. for an MSA event on Saturday, May 27, which saw Pokorski pick up a ninth place showing.

The crowning achievement of Pokorski’s Sprint Car racing career thus far came six days later in an MSA event at the sprawling half-mile Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, June 2, as Pokorski led all 20 laps of the A main from the pole to notch his first career MSA A-main triumph.

Pokorski capped off a tripleheader weekend of action with a fifth place A-main showing at Plymouth on June 3 and a 10th place finish at Angell Park Speedway in Angell Park, Wis. on June 4.

After placing seventh in a PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main on June 10, Pokorski led the first 18 laps of the June 17 A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track before settling for a third place finish. He went one spot better on June 24 to record a second-place A-main showing at Plymouth.

Following a sixth place A-main showing at Plymouth on July 1, Pokorski tallied his first career fast qualifier award at Plymouth on July 8 before placing eighth in the main event.

After enduring a flip and several caution flags in A-main action at the Plymouth Dirt Track on July 15, Pokorski rallied to earn a 10th place showing before coming home sixth in MSA competition at Angell Park Speedway on July 16.

Alex then placed fifth at Plymouth on July 28 before recording a fourth place showing in the MSA’s first-ever appearance at Eagle River Speedway in Eagle River, Wis. on July 29.

On Aug. 5, Pokorski improved 10 spots in the main event, advancing from his 17th starting spot to place seventh in PDTR 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

Both Alex and his father, Paul Pokorski, enjoyed a memorable night on Aug. 12 at Plymouth as Paul led the first five laps from the pole before recording a strong third place A-main finish in Spyder Akright’s 53A car, while Alex followed close behind to finish fourth in the main event.

Paul and Alex recorded a pair of top-10 A-main showings at Plymouth on Aug. 19 with Paul placing ninth and Alex taking 10th. One week later, Alex finished third at Plymouth on Aug. 25 before rebounding from an early incident in the A main to place 14th in MSA A-main action at Wilmot Raceway on Aug. 26.

Alex placed fourth in A-main action at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday, Sept. 1 before leading the first eight laps and coming home second in A-main competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track during the annual Sheboygan County Fair on Saturday, Sept. 2.

The 2023 PDTR-MSA season came to a close with Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at Plymouth on Saturday, Sept. 30 as contact with the back stretch wall in the early stages of the A main ended Alex’s night early with a 21st place finish. The race marked the only time Alex failed to finish an A-main and his lone time placing outside of the top 15 in MSA 360 Sprint Car main event action during the 2023 campaign.

Alex Pokorski is grateful for the support of the team’s sponsors, crew members, family, friends and fans during the 2023 season.

“The 2023 season was a lot of fun,” Pokorski said. “I feel blessed to have had all the people around me who made it possible. I hope they all enjoyed it as well. We had a big improvement from last year, which got us up to a fourth place finish in MSA points. I will be back racing with Spyder and the Akright Auto Racing Team again in 2024. I’m really excited to have that opportunity again, and I am looking forward to improving further.

“Our plan for the 2024 season is to run the MSA schedule again and do a few 410 races as well,” he said.

After competing in just two 360 Sprint Car events in 2022, Paul Pokorski relished the opportunity to race Spyder Akright’s 53A car in 11 events during the 2023 season.

“The season was a lot of fun,” We all had a good time. The entire Akright Auto Racing and Pokorski Motorsports team is looking forward to 2024.”

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) October 3, 2023 – While it may not have featured a perfect ending, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team put a bow on an impressive season worthy of the 2023 Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car Most Improved Driver Award, during the sixth annual Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The 2023 campaign came to a close with Pokorski placing fourth in the final PDTR 360 Sprint Car point standings, which marked an improvement of 10 spots over 2022, during which he finished 14th. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car driver’s head-turning, season-long performance was even more prominent in Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association competition as he vaulted from 15th in the 2022 final point standings to fourth in 2023, while competing in all 24 MSA events during the 2023 season.

The 17th and final PDTR 360 Sprint Car event of the 2023 season saw the West Bend, Wis. driver qualify third overall in a stellar 33-car PDTR-MSA field with a lap of 12.238 seconds.

After starting fourth in the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski swept past T.J. Haddy to move into third on the opening lap. Pokorski held the position during the remainder of the race to advance to the 25-lap Fuzzy Fassbender Tribute A main.

Pokorski rolled off second in the PDTR-MSA headliner and held down the runner-up spot in the early going until his car got out of shape along the cushion before contacting the back stretch wall on lap 5. The impact resulted in significant damage to Pokorski’s No. 4 Spyder Akright-owned machine and brought his 2023 season to an early ending with a 21st place A-main finish in a race won by Scotty Thiel.

The race marked the only time Pokorski failed to finish an A-main and his lone time placing outside of the top 15 in MSA 360 Sprint Car main event action during the 2023 campaign.

“The car was solid all night,” Pokorski said. “In the feature, I caught a rut a little wrong and ended up breaking something on the right front corner of the car that sent me into the wall. That incident created plenty of work for us to do. Luckily, we have the off-season to fix it and regroup.”

In 24 events during the 2023 season, Pokorski earned his first career MSA 360 Sprint Car A-main victory at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, June 2, while notching 12 top-five and 21 top-10 and 23 top-15 A-main showings. In addition, Pokorski tallied four heat race victories and two fast qualifier awards during the 2023 campaign.

“The 2023 season was a lot of fun,” Pokorski said. “I feel blessed to have had all the people around me who made it possible. I hope they all enjoyed it as well. We had a big improvement from last year, which got us up to a fourth place finish in MSA points. I will be back racing with Spyder and the Akright Auto Racing Team again next year. I’m really excited to have that opportunity again, and I am looking forward to improving further.”

Paul Pokorski also closed out his 31st season of racing by competing in a portion of the final PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car event of the season, as he shared the seat of the 53A machine with car owner Spyder Akright throughout the 2023 campaign.

Paul qualified 12th overall among the 33-car field with a lap of 12.484 seconds. After starting on the pole of the third eight-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Paul led the first six laps of the race before Scotty Thiel steered Randy Sippel’s 39s past the 2014 MSA 360 Sprint Car Masters Series champion to bump the West Bend, Wis. driver to a second place showing.

After that, Paul turned the car over to Spyder Akright, who started last in the 15-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car B main due to the driver change. Akright used a strong start to vault from his 14th starting spot up to seventh, just one position away from an A-main transfer spot in the early stages of the race.

However, after some slight contact produced handling issues, Akright fell back in the closing laps to cap the 2023 season with a ninth place B main showing.

In 11 PDTR-MSA events during the 2023 campaign, Paul posted one top-five, four top-10 and six top-15 A-main finishes to go along with one B main victory. Co-driving with Spyder Akright, the Akright-Pokorski piloted 53A car finished 14th in the 2023 PDTR and MSA 360 Sprint Car point standings while competing in all 17 PDTR and 21 of 24 MSA events in 2023.

“I was a bit tight in qualifying and pretty good in the heat race,” Paul said. “Knowing I was going to be turning over the reins to Spyder [Akright] in the next race, and I needed to keep the car in one piece. As a result, I got a little conservative in turns one and two, which cost us a heat race win. Overall, it was a good night from my perspective. The season was also a lot of fun. We all had a good time. Spyder keeps reminding us that’s the point…to have fun and not take it too seriously. The entire Akright Auto Racing and Pokorski Motorsports team is looking forward to 2024 already.”

Alex Pokorski and the members of the Akright Auto Racing Team will be recognized with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car Most Improved Driver Award at the 2023 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Awards Ceremony set to take place Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at Racer’s Hall in Plymouth, Wis.

Sponsors and supporters for Alex Pokorski and the 2023 Akright Auto Racing Team include Akright Auto, Petersen Septic Systems, Goeden Auto Body, Novak’s Service Center, Mulch Express of Wisconsin, Countryside Designs, Wisconsin Bank and Trust, Homestead Auto, Cedar Valley Hunt Club, Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, RC Custom Design and Pedal Down Promotions.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 5, 2023 – With the end of the 2023 season in sight, Alex Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing team deposited two more top-five showings, including a runner-up showing, while leading a total of 15 laps in the final Midwest Sprint Car Association-Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car doubleheader weekend of the season Friday, Sept. 1 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. and Saturday, Sept. 2 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

In addition, Paul Pokorski competed in both MSA events in Spyder Akright’s 53A car, highlighted by a strong top-10 showing at Dodge County.

Alex opened the sixth annual Harry Neitzel Tribute MSA event at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway on Sept. 1 by qualifying third overall in the 19-car field with a time of 19.406 seconds on the sprawling “horsepower half mile.”

After starting third in the second eight-lap MSA heat, Alex finished fourth before rolling off second in the 20-lap main event.

The fourth year competitor outpowered polesitter Brandon Berth to lead the first six laps before Kurt Davis got past on lap 7. After a pair of back-to-back caution flags on lap 12, Brandon Berth and Brandon McMullen worked their way past Pokorski.

Following two more caution flags in the closing three laps, Pokorski battled through the loss of brakes to post a fourth place finish behind third place finisher Scotty Neitzel in Lance Fassbender’s car, McMullen in second and race winner Brandon Berth.

“Our night at Dodge County went very well until I got to lap traffic and found out I had no brakes,” Alex said. “It made it difficult to run the bottom and navigate traffic. Luckily, we got a restart, which helped space things out, and we were able to finish fourth. I think we could’ve had a chance to win if I had brakes.”

One night later during the Sheboygan County Fair, Alex qualified fourth in the 27-car field with a time of 12.963 seconds before starting and finishing third in the third 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race to earn a spot in the A main.

After the passing points formula calculation and inversion draw, Alex started on the pole and led the first nine laps before Brandon McMullen used a low move to assume the top spot. Alex held on the rest of the way to earn his sixth podium, 12th top-five and 21st top-10 showing of the 2023 MSA-PDTR season.

“Plymouth was a fun night,” Alex said. “We got to lead some laps in the feature again and ended up second. Brandon [McMullen] was just really good. If I had moved to the bottom a little sooner, I may have led some more laps, but the 98 car was still going to be tough to beat.”

Paul qualified 14th in the Harry Neitzel Tribute race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday, Sept. 1 in his first start at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in nearly three years with a lap of 19.779 on the half mile.

After starting and finishing seventh in the second eight-lap MSA heat race, Paul started the 20-lap Harry Neitzel Tribute race from the 15th position. The 31-year veteran drove a smooth and consistent race, while enduring four caution periods to advance eight spots to rack up a strong seventh place showing in a race won by Brandon Berth.

“It’s been a while since I did a doubleheader,” Paul said. “Friday night went surprisingly well at Dodge County, after having not been there in a while. We made some changes each time we hit the track and it got better as the night went on. I felt pretty comfortable and had a good time in the feature.”

On Saturday, Sept. 2, the 2014 MSA Masters Series champion qualified 16th among the 27 cars on hand with a time of 13.211 seconds before starting and finishing sixth in the third 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race, to move on to the B main.

After starting on the pole, Paul led all 12 laps to record his first race victory of the 2023 season in the PDTR-MSA B main. The three-time Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified champion then placed 21st in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A main, after starting 17th.

“Saturday night was a little bit more of a bumpy road at Plymouth,” Paul said. “We had a really fast group of cars in our qualifying session, so we ended up about where I expected. It was the same for the heat race. The car felt pretty good in the B, so I was optimistic about the feature. I was disappointed with our lack of performance in the feature. We’re still trying to figure out what we missed with regard to set up. It’s hard to believe another year is almost done!”

After three weekends off, Alex Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team will be in action for the 2023 PDTR-MSA season finale as part of the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars, Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Cars and IRA Lightning Sprints will also be on the card for their 2023 season finales.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and on-track action slated to begin at 5 p.m.

Alex Pokorski stands tall on Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car podium

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 29, 2023 – Alex Pokorski put his measured aggressive driving style on full display by successfully executing a decisive final-turn pass to guide his No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team machine to a spot on the podium with an impressive third place finish in the 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, Aug. 25.

The fourth year PDTR-Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car campaigner opened the special Friday night Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program by qualifying seventh in the 21-car field with a lap of 13.002 seconds.

Pokorski then used his outside front row starting spot to lead all 10 laps of the second PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race en route to his third heat race triumph of the 2023 season.

The West Bend, Wis. competitor rolled off fourth in the 25-lap 360 Sprint event and worked his way past Tristan Koenings to settle into third on the opening lap. On lap 9, Ben Schmidt maneuvered past to push Pokorski back to fourth in the running order.

A caution flag flew on lap 24 for the stalled car of Chris Clayton, which set up a two-lap dash to the finish. After trailing Chris Larson for a number of laps, Pokorski set sail along the high line on the final lap to surge past Larson exiting turn four on the way to a strong third place showing in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

It was Pokorski’s fifth top-three podium, 10th top-five and 19th top-10 A-main finish in 21 MSA 360 Sprint Car Series events.

“It was a fun night at Plymouth,” Pokorski said. “I was happy to win the heat race, and it felt good to race into the top three in the last corner of the feature.”

One night later, Pokorski and the members of the Akright Auto Racing Team travelled south to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. for the second of two 2023 Akright Auto MSA 360 Sprint Car Series appearances at the venerable three-eighths mile semi-banked clay oval facility.

With wet and heavy track conditions prompting the cancellation of MSA group qualifying, Pokorski drew the pole starting position in the fourth eight-lap MSA heat race. Pokorski got the jump on outside front row starter John Fahl to lead all eight laps on the way to his fourth heat race triumph of the 2023 season.

Pokorski then started the 25-lap MSA main event from the fifth position before he was involved in a three-car incident along the front stretch on lap 3, which also involved Chris Larson and Lance Fassbender.

The red-flag incident produced significant front-end damage on Pokorski’s No. 4 car, which prompted pit crew members from the MSA teams of Brandon Berth, Brandon McMullen and J.J. Pagel to leap into action to assist the Akright Auto Racing Team pit crew in getting Pokorski’s machine back on the track.

Pokorski returned to restart 19th. Over the final 22 laps, Pokorski moved up five positions to record a 14th place finish in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“Our night at Wilmot started well, as we picked up another heat race win,” Pokorski said. “In the feature, two cars got tangled up in front of me and I jumped a right rear tire trying to avoid them. My crew, along with some others, did some nice work to get me back on the track in time. I raced the remainder of the feature with a bent front axle and ended up 14th. I was hoping to get another two spots or so, but I was glad we got a few spots back after the incident.”

Paul Pokorski was also behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A car for the eighth time during the 2023 at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Friday, Aug. 25.

After qualifying eighth overall with a lap of 13.004 seconds. Paul started first and finished fourth in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race.

Paul then rolled off 14th in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA headliner before he was involved in an opening-lap incident when Katelyn Krebsbach spun in turn two. After going to the work area following minor contact, Paul returned to restart 21st.

The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion battled back to build up some nice momentum during an extended run of green-flag laps on the way to a solid 13th-place showing.

“My qualifying effort was about what I expected,” Paul said. “I was disappointed with the heat race finish. We were dealing with some minor handling issues that I think we have figured out, so we don’t repeat them. We made several changes for the feature, which made the car pretty decent. I was disappointed with the trip to the work area, but I wanted to make sure the car was okay after some light contact with a spinning car. I was happy that I was able to drive past several cars and work my way back up to one spot better than I originally started. All things considered, it wasn’t a terrible night. I’ll be back in the car on Friday at Dodge County.”

Both Paul and Alex Pokorski are expected to be in action with the Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars, which will join the with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and A Modifieds for the annual Harry Neitzel Tribute event at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 1.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with warm-ups at 6 p.m. followed by hot laps and qualifying with opening ceremonies at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 2, Alex Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team will take part in the annual all-Sprint Car event held during the 2023 Sheboygan County Fair along with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series on Saturday, Sept. 2.

On-track action is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with hot laps, qualifying and racing to follow.

Alex, Paul Pokorski steer Akright Auto 360 Sprint Cars to top-10 showings at Plymouth

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Alex Pokorski registered his 18th top-10 A-main finish of the 2023 Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car season with a 10th place result in the 25-lap Plymouth DIrt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 19.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 22, 2023 – One week after turning in a pair of top-five A-main finishes, the father-son driving tandem of Paul and Alex Pokorski each recorded top-10 main event tallies in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 19.

With 20 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars on hand, Alex opened the night strong by earning his second fast qualifier award of the 2023 season with a fast lap of 12.534 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked clay oval.

In the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Alex started fourth and fell back to fifth when Kevin Karnitz snuck past in the early going. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car racer held down the fifth position throughout the race on the fast and challenging track surface.

Following the calculation of the passing points formula and inversion draw, Alex lined up 16th in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car headliner. The West Bend, Wis. driver put together a solid run through the field, advancing to 12th on lap 3 after sweeping past Tristan Koenings and Katelyn Krebsbach.

The lone caution of the event flew on lap 16 when Koenings stalled along the front stretch. Following the restart, Alex advanced to 10th on lap 19 and maintained the spot over the final six laps to earn his 18th top-10 A-main finish in 19 2023 MSA events in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

“I was happy to get our second quick time award of the year,” Alex said. “It was a bit frustrating to end up fifth in the heat race after starting fourth, but these things happen. I knew it was going to be tough to pass due to the narrow, fast track in the feature. I wanted to make the top 10, and we did end up doing that. We had a nice run in the feature and I feel like we had a car that could’ve finished in the top five, if we started two rows further up.”

Paul Pokorski qualified Spyder Akright’s 53A car seventh overall in the 20-car field with a lap of 12.782 seconds before lining up on the pole of the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race. Outside front row starter Tyler Davis got the jump on Paul on the drop of the green flag which resulted in a second place finish for the 31-year open-wheel racing veteran.

For the second week in a row, the 2014 MSA Masters Series champion started on the pole of the 25-lap PDTR-MSA main event before falling to third on the opening lap as Lance Fassbender and Brandon McMullen snuck past in turn two.

Paul Pokorski turned in a ninth place showing in the seat of Spyder Akright’s 53A car, during the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 19. – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

Paul held down the third spot until Ben Schmidt moved by following the lone caution of the race on lap 16. With five laps remaining, Paul got sideways coming off of turn two, which caused him to lose several spots.

The three-time Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified champion settled in the ninth position, which is where he finished the race to tally his third top-10 A-main finish of the PDTR-MSA 2023 campaign.

“I was happy with the qualifying effort, as it put us in a good spot for the heat race,” Paul said. “I was a little disappointed that we couldn’t come away with the win in the heat race because I thought the car was pretty good. It was nice to be able to start on the pole of the A main for the second week in a row. Unfortunately, the result wasn’t quite as good. The track had a little bit of character and I missed the set up just a little bit. Then I made a few too many mistakes, which obviously cost us a lot of spots. That was disappointing but we’re in one piece and we will go at it again on Friday at Plymouth.”

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will compete in an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader weekend of action starting Friday, Aug. 25 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will also feature the WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour, PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods.

Paul Pokorski is also scheduled to be in the seat of Spyder Akright’s 53A 360 Sprint Car at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Friday, Aug. 25.

Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. with qualifying set at 6 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 26, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will head to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. for the second MSA 360 Sprint Car event of the 2023 campaign at the three-eighths mile semi-banked clay oval. The Badger Midgets, A Modifieds and Bandits are also on the card.

Paul and Alex Pokorski hit father-son top-five mark at head of Plymouth MSA A-main field

Paul Pokorski (53A) raced to a third place finish and Alex Pokorski (4) claimed a fourth place showing in the 25-lap Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 12. – RC Custom Design photo

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 15, 2023 – Paul and Alex Pokorski enjoyed the type of night that will live long in the memories of family, friends team members, supporters and fans, as the father-son racing duo steered their Spyder Akright-owned 360 Sprint Cars to top-five showings in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 12.

With 24 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars on hand, Alex Pokorski reeled off the fourth fastest qualifying time with a lap of 12.808 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked clay oval.

After lining up third in the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Alex dove low to pass front row starters Tony Wondra and Logan Julien and seize the early lead in turn two of the opening lap.

On lap 2, Ben Schmidt used the high groove to relegate Alex to second, which is where he finished the race to gain an A-main starting berth.

Alex rolled off third in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main and moved past outside front row starter T.J. Smith to assume second in turn one on the opening lap to trail his father, Paul, who led the first five laps of the race from the pole.

On lap 4, Brandon McMullen powered around Alex to push the No. 4 Akright Auto car back to third in the running order. On lap 10, Ben Schmidt bolted past Alex to drop the West Bend driver back to fourth.

The first of two caution flags appeared on lap 15 when Justin Erickson spun in turn four. After the restart, T.J. Smith pulled off a slide job to briefly seize fourth from Alex. However, the fourth-year Sprint Car racer battled back to return the slide job favor and regain fourth in turn four on lap 16.

Alex held on through a lap 21 caution and heavy lapped traffic in the closing stages of the race to record a fourth place finish, which marked his ninth top-five and 17th top-10 finish in 18 2023 MSA A-main events.

“Qualifying and the heat race both went well,” Alex said. “When you start a race up front, the initial thought is always to keep yourself in contention for the win. I thought the race went well, but I didn’t quite have the edge to beat the guys in front of me, one of them being my dad [Paul Pokorski]. It was fun to race with him and to have both of us finish in the top five. That’s not something everyone gets to do. I enjoyed the night, even though he ended up beating me. I’m looking forward to finishing out the season strong with the team.”

In his sixth appearance of the 2023 season in Spyder Akright’s 53A car, Paul Pokorski began the night by qualifying 13th overall with a lap of 13.109 seconds.

After starting fifth in the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race, Paul used a low move on lap 3 to work past Tony Wondra to take fourth. Two laps later, Paul maneuvered around Logan Julien to take third, which is where he finished.

Following the calculation of the heat race passing point formula and subsequent A-main inversion draw, Paul lined up on the pole of the 25-lap main event. The 31-year 360 Sprint Car and Winged Super Modified racing veteran bolted into the lead on the drop of the green flag and paced the first five laps before Brandon McMullen shot past along the outside groove to take over the lead in turn one on lap 6.

Paul maintained the runner-up spot until lap 12 when Ben Schmidt worked his way past to move Pokorski back to third. Paul worked the preferred outside groove to hold strong through a pair of caution flags and thick lapped traffic during the second half of the race on the way to a strong third place podium finish in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

It was Paul’s first top-five A-main finish and second top-10 main event showing in six 2023 appearances in Spyder Akright’s 53A machine.

“I was a little disappointed in my qualifying effort,” Paul said. “I thought the car was just a tick better than that. I was following another car in qualifying and got held up just a little bit on the entry to a corner or two and I think that probably cost us a little. In the end, it worked out as we passed a few cars in the heat race. The car felt pretty good. I think I’m finally starting to get comfortable with this car.

“When the invert put me on the pole for the A main, I got a little nervous,” he said. “I haven’t been nervous in a while. We made a fair amount of changes and I wasn’t sure it would be comfortable in the feature, so I was a little tentative at the start. Once we got a couple of laps in and the car felt good, the nerves certainly went away, and I had a good time. Even though I thought I was holding my own, I was pretty certain that Alex [Pokorski] would go past at some point. I knew from the scoreboard he was right behind me. You always want your kid to do good, but every once in a while, it’s nice to beat them too, so we’ll take it as a victory for the old guys. We’re both happy we could give Spyder [Akright] and the Akright Auto team a nice solid night for both of us. Needless to say, there were lots of smiles around the pit area after the race. When you had a good week and you’re looking forward to next week, it makes the work week go faster too.”

The next race for Alex Pokorski at the Akright Auto Racing Team is this Saturday, Aug. 19 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will also feature the PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods, along with an appearance from the Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying set at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Pokorski advances 10 spots in PDTR 360 Sprint Car top-10 charge

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Alex Pokorski advanced from the 17th starting spot to earn a seventh place showing in the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 5. – RC Custom Design photo

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 8, 2023 – After an enduring a slow start to the night, Alex Pokorski turned it up when it mattered most to move up 10 positions and record his 16th top-10 showing in 17 2023 Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main events, during Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-MSA 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 5.

With 24 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars signed in, a transponder issue relegated Pokorski to the eighth and final position in the second group qualifying session.

After starting eighth in the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, the fourth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor worked his way around T.J. Haddy to assume seventh place in turn two on lap one. Pokorski held the position the rest of the way on the fast and narrow track surface en route to a seventh place showing.

The West Bend, Wis. driver rolled off 17th in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event before utilizing the high groove to advance to 13th on lap 6. By the halfway point, Pokorski had worked his way into 10th.

On lap 14, Pokorski maneuvered around Katelyn Kresbach to move into ninth before slipping past Doug Wondra on lap 22 to take over eighth. A caution flag on lap 24 bunched the field for a single-file green-white-checkered flag finish, which allowed Pokorski to power around Hayden Johnson to assume seventh on the final lap.

Pokorski went on to place seventh to secure his 16th top-10 A-main finish of the 2023 MSA campaign in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“We didn’t record a qualifying time, so we started at the back of the heat race,” Pokorski said. “It was tough to pass on the narrow track in the heat race. The feature track was actually very nice, and it widened out well. I enjoyed racing through the pack to salvage a decent night in the A main.”

The next race for Alex Pokorski at the Akright Auto Racing Team is this Saturday, Aug. 12 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will also feature the Super Six Late Model Series, PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying set at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Pokorski turns in two MSA top fives in Plymouth, Eagle River doubleheader

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

Alex Pokorski recorded two top-five A-main finishes in Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series competition with a fifth place finish at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, July 28 and a fourth place showing at Eagle River Speedway in Eagle River, Wis. on Saturday, July 29. – RC Custom Design photo

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 1, 2023 – Another doubleheader weekend of Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series competition produced two more top-five A-main showings for Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team Friday, July 28 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. and Saturday, July 29 in the MSA series’ debut appearance at Eagle River Speedway in Eagle River, Wis.

Pokorski opened the third annual Road America Challenge Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-MSA 360 Sprint Car event at The Plymouth Dirt Track by recording the second fastest overall qualifying lap in the 25-car field with a time of 13.612 seconds.

After rolling off third in the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski got pinched low by another car just after the green flag was displayed to the field on the initial start, which caused the fourth-year Sprint Car driver to fall back to seventh in the running order.

However, the West Bend, Wis. competitor battled back by working his way past Bill Taylor, Josh Bilicki, Shane Wenninger and T.J. Smith over the final seven laps of the race to record a third place finish.

After the track crew worked on the very dry and dusty track surface at intermission, Pokorski and his fellow competitors in the large 25-car field were greeted with a vastly different fast and tacky track surface for the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main.

Pokorski started 10th and moved to seventh by lap 5 before moving into the top five by passing Lance Fassbender with a low move in turn one on lap 16. Chris Clayton relegated Pokorski to sixth on lap 22 before the lone caution flag was displayed to the field when Devan Meyers of Bringhurst, Ind. spun in turn four.

On the restart, Pokorski moved up to the high line to work around T.J. Haddy in the closing three laps and secure a fifth place finish in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“The heat race was a bit frustrating because I felt there should have been a caution thrown on lap one,” Pokorski said. “That put us behind a bit, but luckily we rebounded to third. The feature was fun going from 10th to fifth. I was happy to finish in the top five.”

Paul Pokorski, who made his fifth start of the 2023 season in the seat of Spyder Akright’s 53A car, qualified 16th with a lap of 14.392 seconds before starting ninth and finishing seventh in the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA heat race.

The 31-year veteran started the 25-lap main event 17th and wound up 18th at the finish.

Paul Pokorski competed for the fifth time during the 2023 season in Spyder Akright’s 53A car, posting an 18th place A-main finish in an Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, July 28.  – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

“The night was a little frustrating,” Paul said. “In group qualifying, I felt I was held up a little bit by another car, which put us in a bad spot. That can sort of set up how your night will go. The car was okay, not bad, but not great all night. We will keep digging and having some fun.”

On Saturday, July 29, Alex Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team headed three hours north for the first-ever full-sized Sprint Car race held at Eagle River Speedway.

Once again, Alex posted the second overall qualifying lap in the 17-car field by touring the D-shaped third-mile clay oval in 12.547 seconds.

After lining up fourth in the third eight-lap MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race, Alex spun in turn four on the opening lap. Following a brief visit to the work area, Alex started fourth in the five-car field for a complete restart.

Alex used a strong outside move shortly after the start to sweep past both Tristan Koenings and Kevin Karnitz to nail down second in turn two. Alex closed the gap on leader T.J. Smith over the final few laps before settling for second.

After starting fourth, Alex drove a steady race mainly along the preferred outside groove of the well-manicured semi slick and ultra smooth racing surface to record a fourth place showing in a race won by Ben Schmidt and presented by RC Custom Design.

The fourth place finish was Alex’s eighth top-five and 15th top-10 A-main showing of the 2023 MSA campaign in 16 total events.

“I enjoyed visiting Eagle River Speedway and they prepared a nice surface for us to race on,” Alex said. “Qualifying still seems to be taunting me a bit. We finished second overall both nights this past weekend. I felt the A main went well, but I wish I were more aggressive on the initial start. I had thought about going above the cushion right away, but decided against it. Ben [Schmidt] went for it, and it worked very well for him. I’m glad we put on a good show for the fans there. I’d be happy to go back next year.”

The next race for Alex Pokorski at the Akright Auto Racing Team is this Saturday, Aug. 5 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will also feature the PDTR Grand Nationals and B Mods, along with the IRA Lightning Sprints.

In addition, the event will include a kids’ coin and candy drop courtesy of VanDerVaart Concrete.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying set at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Sponsors and supporters for Alex Pokorski and the 2023 Akright Auto Racing Team include Akright Auto, Petersen Septic Systems, Goeden Auto Body, Novak’s Service Center, Mulch Express of Wisconsin, Countryside Designs, Wisconsin Bank and Trust, Homestead Auto, Cedar Valley Hunt Club, Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, RC Custom Design and Pedal Down Promotions.

Pokorski completes solid MSA doubleheader weekend with pair of top-10 showings

Alex Pokorski earned a 10th place showing at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 15 and a sixth place finish at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, July 16, during a Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series doubleheader weekend. – RC Custom Design photo

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 18, 2023 – Despite facing a few bumps in the road, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team continued their focused, even-keel approach to the 2023 season by tallying two more top-10 A-main showings, during an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series doubleheader weekend of competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 15 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, July 16.

On Saturday, July 15, a stout field of 27 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-MSA 360 Sprint Cars signed in for Plymouth Racing Wall of Fame Night at The Plymouth Dirt Track. Pokorski opened the proceedings by clicking off the second-fastest group qualifying lap of 12.818 seconds, to end up just .001 of a second behind fast qualifier Kurt Davis.

The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor then lined up third in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and fell back to fourth when Kurt Davis moved by on the opening circuit. Pokorski held on the rest of the way to collect a fourth place showing.

After the passing points and inversion draw was completed, Pokorski began the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main from the 14th starting position. The West Bend, Wis. driver attempted to utilize the high and wide cushion in the early going, which saw him get crossed up in turn three on lap 2 to briefly fall back to 17th in the running order.

Pokorski had passed Doug Wondra and J.J. Pagel to move up to 15th when he lost control of his No. 4 machine in turn two, resulting in the car flipping on its side to bring out a red flag on lap 12. Following a trip to the work area, Pokorski returned at the rear of the field to roll off 21st on the following restart.

Pokorski passed Bill Taylor and Katelyn Krebsbach to move up to 19th before a string of four consecutive caution flags ground the race to a screeching halt on lap 19. The lengthy race was then ruled complete due to the 25-lap minute time limit when the fourth attempt to restart the race ended with a six-car incident in turn two.

When the scoring was sorting out from the four late-race mishaps, Pokorski was credited with a 10th place showing in a race won by Kevin Karnitz.

“Plymouth was a bit of a wild night,” Pokorski said. “Luckily, tipping the car didn’t do too much damage, and we could keep racing. We managed to salvage a 10th place finish out of a bad night.”

The Alex Pokorski Akright Auto Racing Team then turned their attention to an MSA event during Bryan Gapinski Tribute Night at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, July 16 where a total of 21 MSA 360 Sprint Cars were on hand.

The heat race draw format saw Pokorski start seventh in the first 10-lap MSA heat race. He managed to move up one spot by passing Eric Wilke on lap 2 to gain a sixth place finish.

Pokorski rolled off 14th in the 20-lap MSA main event and found himself up to ninth, following a pair of cautions on lap 2 for rookie T.J Haddy’s turn four spin and lap 7 when Clayton Rossmann spun in turn two in Nick Daywalt’s No. 66 car.

On the restart, Pokorski moved past Ben Schmidt on lap 8 to advance to eighth before Tommy Colburn hit the turn two wall to bring out a caution flag. After restarting seventh, Pokorski drove around Kurt Davis with a high move on lap 9 to gain sixth before Bill Taylor flipped on the front stretch to bring out the fourth stoppage period of the race on lap 10.

Pokorski fell back to seventh on the next restart and held the spot until lap 17 when rookie Logan Julien flipped in turn two. The final three laps saw Pokorski engage in a tight duel with rookie T.J. Smith for sixth with Pokorski edging out Smith by a half car length at the finish line to secure a sixth place finish in a race won by Brandon Berth.

The sixth place showing marked Pokorski’s 13th top-10 A-main finish in 14 MSA races during the 2023 season.

“On Sunday, we ran really well and made nice adjustments for the A main,” Pokorski said. “Our car was much better than last time at Angel Park. I think it was the best track we have had all year. It was a little rough, but it had multiple fast lanes, which made for good racing. I hope we can have more racing surfaces like that.”

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car action this Saturday, July 22 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. with the Super Six Late Model Series, Grand Nationals and B Mods also on the card.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Pokorski qualifies quickest, adds to 360 Sprint Car top-10 tally at Plymouth Dirt Track

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 11, 2023 – After coming up just short on several occasions, Alex Pokorski finally reached the top rung of the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car qualifying ladder, while collecting his 11th top-10 A-main showing in 12 attempts behind the wheel of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car, during Pedal Down Promotions Night at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 8.

With 19 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars on hand, the fourth-year racer opened the night by earning his first-career fast qualifier award with a top lap of 12.368 seconds around the lightning fast third-mile clay oval.

After lining up fourth in the second 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski used a strong start to pass T.J. Smith in turn two and Katelyn Krebsbach in turn three to work his way into second on the opening circuit. The West Bend, Wis. driver gradually reeled in the lead car of rookie T.J. Haddy in the closing laps before settling for second.

Following the heat race passing points calculation and an unfavorable inversion draw, Pokorski started ninth in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event. Pokorski worked his way up to eighth on lap 4 on the fast, narrow and tricky track surface before moving around Katelyn Krebsbach to claim seventh on lap 6.

In the latter stages of the race, Pokorski found himself hung up along the low line on a few occasions, which slowed his progress in negotiating the razor thin racing groove. Brandon Berth used the high line to slip past Pokorski in the closing circuits, which resulted in an eighth place finish in the caution-free race, which was won by Ben Schmidt.

“It felt good to finally get quick time, after being close a bunch of times,” Pokorski said. “The heat race was largely decided in the first lap, which went well for us. I might’ve had a chance to win it, but the 21 [T.J. Haddy] did a nice job, and I didn’t have an opening to get past.

“We had a fast car for the A main, but the track was narrow and difficult to pass on,” he said. “We got buried by the invert draw to start ninth and ended up eighth. I think it was a night where the starting position really mattered. If we started closer to the front, we could’ve been on the podium.”

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team are set for an MSA doubleheader weekend beginning with a PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car event this Saturday, July 15 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. with the Super Six Late Model Series, Grand Nationals, B Mods and Vintage Modifieds also on the card.

The program will also include the induction of the Plymouth Racing Wall of Fame Class of 2023 during intermission, along with Autograph Night.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, July 16, Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will travel to Sun Prairie, Wis. for the second and final appearance of the 2023 season for the MSA 360 Sprint Cars at the venerable third-mile track.

The Salute to Bryan Gapinski event will also include the Badger Midgets and Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series.

Pit gates open at 1:30 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 6 p.m.

Sponsors and supporters for Alex Pokorski and the 2023 Akright Auto Racing Team include Akright Auto, Petersen Septic Systems, Goeden Auto Body, Novak’s Service Center, Mulch Express of Wisconsin, Countryside Designs, Wisconsin Bank and Trust, Homestead Auto, Cedar Valley Hunt Club, Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, RC Custom Design and Pedal Down Promotions.

Alex Pokorski posts 10th top-10 showing of 2023 MSA campaign

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 4, 2023 – While negotiating the challenges of an uncharacteristically fast and uneven track surface, Alex Pokorski steered the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car to a solid sixth place showing in the 25-lap Scott Semmelmann Memorial Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 1.

Pokorski opened the night with another strong qualifying effort as he turned in the second fastest overall lap in the 25-car field, which clocked in at 12.412 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked clay oval.

The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor then lined up fourth in the third 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and worked his way past Tristan Koenings with a low move in turn four on lap 8 to secure a third place finish.

The West Bend, Wis. driver started third in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA headliner and fell back to fifth on the opening lap as Logan Julien and Brandon McMullen snuck past. After a caution flag appeared on lap 2 for an incident involving Ryan Sawusch, Pokorski dropped to sixth when Robbie Pribnow moved by on lap 5.

After another caution flag was displayed on lap 11 when Tommy Colburn stopped on the backstretch. Pokorski advanced to fifth by passing T.J. Haddy on lap 12. The restart saw Pokorski drop back to seventh when Shane Wenninger and Kurt Davis moved past.

However, Pokorski rebounded to work underneath Davis to regain sixth on lap 23. The recent MSA Dodge County Fairgrounds A-main winner held on to claim a sixth place finish and secure his 10th top-10 main event showing in 11 2023 MSA events in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“It was a bit frustrating to be second quick again in qualifying,” Pokorski said. “Maybe we can get that $75 one of these weeks. The car was good in the open track, but needs to be more maneuverable when racing near others. We will have to make some changes to our heavy track set up to find something that works for us.

“I think we can be in the top five every week, so I’m aiming to be back there next week,” he said.

Paul Pokorski also entered his fourth PDTR-MSA event of the 2023 season in the seat of Spyder Akright’s 53A car. The 31-year veteran opened the night by qualifying sixth overall with a lap of 12.455 seconds.

The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion started second in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and fell back to fourth as Robbie Pribnow and Ben Schmidt advanced past. On the final lap of the race, the rear end assembly of the West Bend, Wis. driver’s car failed, resulting in a sixth place finish before his car rolled to a stop on the back stretch following the checkered flag.

The Akright Auto Racing Team pit crew worked to replace the rear end in time for the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A main, but they were unable to complete the needed repairs in time for Pokorski to join the main event field.

“I was reasonably happy with the car and qualifying,” Paul Pokorski said. “We had made some significant set-up changes and tweaked some driver comfort things over the past week, and it all seemed to be going in the right direction. The heat race was going okay, until the rear end broke when something in the ring pinion broke loose. It broke suddenly, and I had no idea that it was coming. That ended our run.

“The crew made an attempt to get a change, but we had a couple of snags with the swap and we were about five minutes short of making it,” he said. “I appreciate all their hard work and effort in the heat to try and get me back out, but it wasn’t meant to be. We’ll be back at it next week.”

Both Alex and Paul Pokorski will again be in action with the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, July 8 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. with the Grand Nationals, B Mods and Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series also on the card.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Alex Pokorski posts Plymouth-best runner-up showing in Cole Possi tribute race

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 27, 2023 – For the second straight week, Alex Pokorski kept his No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team machine locked at the front of the field on the way to a second place finish in the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association Cole’s Last Lap Tribute main event Saturday, June 24 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

The evening honored the memory of PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car driver Cole Possi, who passed away in March. Members of the Upper Michigan-based Possi Racing team, family members, friends and supporters gathered at The Plymouth Dirt Track for the special event.

In addition, Cole’s father, Earl, a former 360 Sprint Car competitor, strapped into Cole’s No. 39 to compete in the 22-car PDTR-MSA field.

Pokorski, who earned a third place podium finish in the June 17 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main at Plymouth, opened the night by qualifying eighth overall and fourth in his heat race group with a lap of 13.137 seconds.

After the West Bend, Wis. driver started on the pole of the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race, outside front row starter Lance Fassbender used the preferred outside lane to power into the lead in turn two of the opening lap. Pokorski recovered in the closing stages of the race to move within striking distance of Fassbender before settling for a second place finish.

After the heat passing points were tallied and the inversion draw was completed, Pokorski rolled off from the pole position in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A main. Rookie T.J. Haddy got the initial jump from his outside front row starting spot to relegate Pokorski to second on the first lap.

Following a lap 2 caution, Ben Schmidt maneuvered past Pokorski to push the fourth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor to third. Through the ebb and flow of three more caution flags, Pokorski dueled back and forth with Brandon Berth for second place before finally seizing the runner-up spot for good on lap 17 when Berth pushed high in turn two.

Pokorski reeled in Schmidt in the closing laps as the leaders worked through slower traffic. However, Pokorski was unable to mount a serious challenge for the top spot as he posted a Plymouth Dirt Track-best second place finish, which marked his fourth podium showing, sixth top-five and ninth top-10 finish of the 2023 campaign.

“We had another solid night all around,” Pokorski said. “It would’ve been nice to start on the outside lane for the start and a number of restarts in the feature. If we had maybe one or two more laps in the A main, I may have had a shot at winning. Regardless, I’m happy to be on the podium for two weeks running!”

Pokorski’s father, Paul, also entered his third PDTR-MSA event of the 2023 season behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A car. Paul opened the night strong by qualifying fourth overall and first in the second heat race grouping with a lap of 12.913 seconds.

Paul Pokorski (53A) and Alex Pokorski (4) were both in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car field for the third time during the 2023 season on Saturday, June 24 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. – RC Custom Design photo

After starting and finishing fourth in the second 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race, Paul started from the 10th position in the 25-lap main event. The 31-year veteran endured four caution flags and the demands of a challenging, undulating track surface to post a 14th place A-main finish.

“The car was pretty good in qualifying,” Paul Pokorski said. “The last lap felt really good and I was very pleased with the result. We didn’t free the car up enough for the heat or the feature and it was a little bit of a handful. We’ll keep working at it this week and see if we can strike a better balance when I get back in the car this Saturday at Plymouth.”

Both Alex and Paul Pokorski will be in action with the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, July 1 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. for an all-open wheel program featuring the third 2023 Plymouth Dirt Track appearance of the 2023 season from the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series, along with the IRA Lightning Sprints.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. hot laps set at 5:30 p.m. racing to follow.

Pokorski registers third 2023 MSA podium showing at Plymouth Dirt Track

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 20, 2023 – Alex Pokorski’s breakout season behind the wheel of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car continued in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association competition on Saturday, June 17 as the fourth-year racer racked up his third A-main podium finish of the 2023 season.

Pokorski came out of the box strong by timing in second in the 25-car PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car field with a qualifying lap of 13.114 seconds.

The West Bend, Wis. driver then started third in the third PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race and bolted past the owner of his No. 4 Akright Auto machine, Spyder Akright of Sheboygan Falls, on the opening lap to slide into second in the running order. By lap 8, Pokorski had cut the gap behind leader Bill Taylor significantly before settling for second.

After starting the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A main on the outside of the front row, Pokorski outpowered 2021 and 2022 PDTR and MSA champion Travis Arenz of Sheboygan Falls, who started on the pole, to seize the lead in turn one of the opening lap.

The first of four caution flags appeared on lap 2 when rookie Hayden Johnson stopped in turn four. On the restart, Arenz attempted to steal the lead away from Pokorski with a slide job in turn two. However, Pokorski was able to work around Arenz’s attempt and maintain the top spot.

However, the race was slowed again later in the same lap when Spyder Akright, Tommy Colburn and Bill Taylor made contact in turn two. Arenz again attempted a slide job on Pokorski on the ensuing restart. However, he slipped up high near the wall and collided with the high riding Pokorski, resulting in Arenz spinning in turn two before collecting the third place car of Tony Wondra to bring out the third caution flag of the race.

Despite some slight front-end damage from the contact, Pokorski controlled the ensuing restart before the fourth caution appeared when Colburn stopped in turn four on lap 5. A single-file restart saw 2011 PDTR and MSA champion Ben Schmidt get a big run and slide past Pokorski to take over the top spot in turn four on lap 6.

Two laps later, Pokorski felt pressure from another former champion, four-time MSA and two-time PDTR champ Brandon McMullen, who worked the low groove to pull even for second on lap 8. Pokorski and McMullen dueled side by side for the next 10 laps before McMullen finally gained the spot to push Pokorski back to third.

Pokorski maintained the third position over the final seven laps to notch his third MSA-PDTR A-main podium, fifth top-five and eighth top-10 main event finish in nine A mains during the 2023 campaign in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“The car was solid all night long,” Pokorski said. “We just needed a little bit more to get a fast time in qualifying one of these nights as we ended up second quick again. There was a lot of tight racing at the start of the feature and things got a little too tight early on. Travis [Arenz] attempted a couple short slide jobs and the second one did not leave me any space. For a second, I thought we might be pushed into the wall, but we were able to get out of that situation with only minor damage.

“Once the race restarted, it was fun to race with Ben [Schmidt] and Brandon [McMullen],” he said. “They got the better of me this week, but maybe we will get them next week. The A main was fun overall, and we got a top-three finish, which was a good points night.”

Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will be in action with the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, June 24 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying set at 5:30 p.m. and racing scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Alex Pokorski posts seventh top-10 showing of 2023 MSA campaign

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 13, 2023 – Alex Pokorski steered the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car to his seventh top-10 A-main showing in eight attempts with a seventh place finish in the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 10.

With 19 MSA 360 Sprint Cars on hand, Pokorski started off strong by turning in the second fastest overall qualifying lap and top lap time in his heat race group by touring the third-mile clay oval in 12.467 seconds.

The fourth-year competitor lined up fourth in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race and passed rookie Logan Julien along the high groove on the opening lap to settle into third. Pokorski maintained the position the rest of the way to post a third place finish.

The West Bend, Wis. driver then rolled off fifth in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event before falling back to seventh on lap 3. Three laps later, Brandon McMullen moved Pokorski back to eighth.

The recent first-time MSA A-main winner at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. regrouped to pass 360 Sprint Car rookies T.J. Smith and Tristan Koening to assume sixth on lap 13. In the closing laps, Ben Schmidt used the outside groove to push Pokorski back to seventh when the checkered flag fell in a race won by Tony Wondra.

“We were fast in qualifying,” Pokorski said. “We just need to get one more spot better one of these times. I think we have been second in qualifying two or three times now. The heat race went well and got us into the feature invert. I started fifth, so it was a bit disappointing to go back two spots in the main event. I felt the car was pretty good. I just needed to figure out the best lines sooner. Overall, it was a solid night.”

The Alex Pokorski – Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action with the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, June 17 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will feature the Badger Midgets, along with the Grand Nationals and B Mods.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with Late Model and 360 Sprint Car qualifying set at 5:30 p.m. and racing scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Alex Pokorski joins MSA A-main winners club during successful tripleheader weekend

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 6, 2023 – Nearly three years after making his debut behind the wheel of a 360 Sprint Car, Alex Pokorski etched his name into the record books as a Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series A-main winner at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, June 2 to kick off a highly successful MSA tripleheader weekend of competition for his No. 4 Spyder Akright-owned Akright Auto Racing Team.

With 21 MSA 360 Sprint Cars signed in, Pokorski qualified 14th overall and sixth in his group with a lap of 20.435 seconds around the huge half-mile Dodge County Fairgrounds clay oval.

After starting sixth in the first eight-lap MSA heat race, the West Bend, Wis. driver slipped past Bill Taylor to take over fifth. On lap 3, Pokorski powered around Justin Erickson to take over the fourth spot along the backstretch, which is where he finished the race.

The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car driver, who is now in his second full season of competition for the Akright Auto Racing Team, bolted into the lead on the drop of the green flag of the 20-lap MSA main event from the pole with rookie Logan Julien, who started second, in tow.

By lap 4, Pokorski, who began his 360 Sprint Car racing career at The Plymouth Dirt Track on June 13, 2020, had built up a full straightaway cushion before reaching lapped traffic on lap 6. Four-time MSA champion Brandon McMullen, who started third, moved into second lap 9 and began to reel in Pokorski.

However, Pokorski hit his stride over the second half of the race to extend his lead to a half lap over McMullen. Pokorski, who was making only his second official career start at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway, cruised over the final few laps to secure his first career MSA 360 Sprint Car Series A main victory.

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team returned to action on Saturday, June 3 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. as the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – MSA 360 Sprint Cars ran in support of the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions – Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series Rayce Rudeen Foundation event.

In addition, Paul Pokorski made his second start of the 2023 season in the seat of Spyder Akright’s 53A car.

Alex opened the night by qualifying fifth overall in the 25-car field with a lap of 13.020 seconds. Paul qualified 21st overall with a lap of 13.689 seconds.

After starting fourth in eight-lap PDTR-MSA heat race one, Alex moved past Bill Taylor at the start to take third. On lap 2, Chris Clayton briefly took third place away from Alex in turn three. However, Alex battled back to regain third with a low move in turn four, which is where he finished the race.

Paul started seventh in the third eight-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and took sixth by passing 360 Sprint Car rookie T.J. Smith on lap one. The 31-year veteran moved in to pressure rookie Logan Julien for fifth before settling for a sixth place finish.

After starting seventh in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main, Shane Wenninger slipped past to drop Alex to eighth on lap 2. Alex then used the preferred inside groove to pass Ben Schmidt on lap 3 before working his way past Robbie Pribnow for sixth on lap 14.

Nine laps later, the red flag appeared when race leader Justin Erickson flipped after making contact with a lapped car. Alex restarted fifth and held the position through another late caution flag on lap 24 to secure a fifth place finish in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

Paul started 14th and patiently worked his way up through the field along the low line. On lap 22, Paul moved around Nick Daywalt to assume 11th. After Justin Erickson’s flip and ensuing contact, which dropped Ben Schmidt out of the race, Paul restarted ninth on lap 23 and held on the rest of the way to earn a ninth place showing and his first top-10 finish of the 2023 season.

“Every night I drive the 53A car, my attitude is a bit different than when I was racing full-time,” Pokorski said. “The focus is having fun. Wrecking is no fun. So, I’m being careful not to drive too hard or make poor decisions. That being said, I was a bit frustrated with my qualifying and heat race efforts. I felt better in the feature.

“Patient was the approach in the feature,” he said. “I tried to stay down in the groove, which was right around the bottom, and wait for opportunities. Anyone that was trying to run the middle to the top seemed to be losing spots. I made that mistake the week before. In the end, we moved forward and overall, I was pretty happy with the result.”

The following night, Alex and the team headed to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. for the team’s first of two scheduled 2023 MSA 360 Sprint Car Series appearances at the historic circle-shaped track.

After qualifying eighth overall in the 20-car MSA field, Alex started on the outside of the front row in the first 10-lap MSA heat race. Pokorski got the jump on polesitter Doug Wondra of Oakfield to lead the opening lap. The 24-year-old driver then proceeded to build up a sizeable advantage on the way to his second heat race victory of the 2023 season.

Pokorski rolled off fifth in the 25-lap MSA 360 Sprint Car A main and struggled to find a comfortable line and grip on the tricky Angell Park Speedway racing surface before registering a 10th place finish in a race won by Ben Schmidt to cap off the rare MSA tripleheader weekend.

“At Dodge County, it took a few laps for me to get the feel of the car there,” Alex Pokorski said. “By the time the heat race started, I had figured it out fairly well and was able to race well.

“The plan going into the feature was to give myself a chance to win and stay in contention towards the end of the race,” he said. “That’s usually the goal when you start up toward the front. I ended up leading the whole way, so it worked out pretty well. It felt great to finally get a feature win and get that monkey off my back. It was a great start to the weekend, which we followed with fifth and 10th place finishes at Plymouth and Sun Prairie, respectively. I think I could’ve done better at Sun Prairie, but overall, it was a really good weekend.”

The Alex Pokorski – Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action with the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, June 10 at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., which will feature the third race in the 2023 PDTR Super Six Late Model Series, along with the Grand Nationals and B Mods.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with Late Model and 360 Sprint Car qualifying set at 5:30 p.m. and racing scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Alex Pokorski picks up third top 10 of 2023 MSA season at Wilmot Raceway

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 30, 2023 – One week after some bad luck slipped a speed bump into a fast start to their 2023 season, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team bounced back with a solid ninth place showing in an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series A-main event at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, May 27.

The West Bend, Wis. driver opened the program by laying down the 11th fastest qualifying lap in the 23-car MSA field with a time of 14.133 seconds around the three-eighths mile semi-banked clay oval.

After lining up fifth in the third 10-lap MSA heat race, Pokorski fell back to sixth on the opening lap before passing Bill Taylor to regain fifth on lap 2. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car competitor then held on over the final eight laps to secure a fifth place showing.

In the 25-lap MSA main event presented by Adonnis Waterproofing and Foundation Repair, Pokorski started 14th and worked his way up to 11th on lap 3. On lap 6, passed Chris Larson to break into the top 10.

Six laps later, the lone caution flag of the event flew when Chris Larson spun in turn four. On the restart, Pokorski worked his way past rookie Logan Julien to take ninth. Pokorski maintained the ninth spot over the final six laps to nail down his third top-10 finish of the 2023 MSA season in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

“The car was solid all night long,” Pokorski said. “I needed to adjust my line in qualifying to get into the top four for the group. Qualifying fifth put us behind for the night, and we had to chase it a bit to get a top-10 feature finish. It was tough to get spots, and I had to get the elbows up to fight for the bottom a couple times.”

Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action with a tripleheader weekend of action kicking off this Friday, June 2 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. for the first annual Gib Wiser Classic, which will also include a Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions – Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car challenge event.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m., spectator gates are set to open at 5 p.m. with warm ups at 6 p.m. and hot laps, qualifying and racing to follow with opening ceremonies slated for 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, June 3, the team will head to The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. to run in support of another Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions – Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car challenge race, featuring the $26,000-to-win Rayce Rudeen Foundation event.

Paul Pokorski is also scheduled to make his second start of the season behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s No. 53 360 Sprint Car at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, June 3.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m., followed by spectator gates at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and qualifying and racing to follow.

The team will cap off an MSA tripleheader weekend on Sunday, June 4 with the series’ first of two scheduled 2023 appearances at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., which will also include the Badger Midgets and Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Cars.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with open ceremonies at 6 p.m.

“This upcoming weekend will be challenging with three races at three different tracks, but I’m looking forward to it,” Pokorski said.

Misfortune spoils promising run for Alex Pokorski at Plymouth Dirt Track

Paul Pokorski makes 2023 season debut

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 23, 2023 – It was a case of what might have been for Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team as what was shaping up to be a career-best A-main run ended up being derailed by a mid-race mishap in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car main event competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 20.

An all-open wheel racing program, which also featured the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association and Badger Midgets, drew a field of 27 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars to the venerable third-mile clay oval, including Alex’s father, Paul, who made his first start in nearly a year behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A 360 Sprint Car.

Alex opened the night by qualifying sixth overall with a lap of 13.540 seconds, while Paul qualified 16th overall in 13.992 seconds.

Both Alex and Paul competed in the third 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race with Alex rolling off third and Paul starting second. Alex advanced one spot to place second and Paul finished fourth as both Akright Auto Racing Team competitors earned transfer spots to the 25-lap 360 Sprint Car A main.

After starting fifth in the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event, Alex used a strong start to move past Kurt Davis into third on lap 3. After a caution on lap 6 for a spin involving Travis Arenz, Alex bolted past Ben Schmidt to take over second on lap 7.

While the track started to lay rubber along the inside groove, Alex reeled in race leader Lance Fassbender as the leaders encountered lapped traffic on lap 12.

Just as Alex began to pressure Fassbender for the top spot, the lapped cars of Chris Larson and T.J. Haddy collided in front of the leaders in turn four. With nowhere to go, Alex was collected in the incident, forcing him to retreat to the work area for repairs.

After returning to the action in 18th place, Alex was able to pick up four spots over the final 10 laps to secure a 14th place finish a race won by Lance Fassbender.

“I think qualifying and the heat race both went well,” Alex said. “Having a good start to the night set us up well for the feature. The strategy for the feature is always to put yourself in a position where you have a chance to win. It was going well. I just got unlucky.

“A lapped car drove into the corner too hard and spun right in front of me,” he said. “I didn’t have any time to avoid the two cars that spun ahead of me, and we ended up wrecking a header and nerf bar. The crew got me back out right away, and I was able to work back past a few cars. It was difficult to pass at that point with the track taking rubber again.”

Paul lined up 15th in the PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A main and came home with an 18th place finish in his first time in the driver’s seat since May 28, 2022.

“I was reasonably happy with qualifying and the heat race,” Paul said. “They went about as well as I would’ve expected after being out of the car for quite some time.

“For the feature, we knew the track would rubber up and that’s not my thing!,” he said. “I don’t have the patience to stay in line and ride and every time I tried to get out of line and make something happen, it just cost me spots. So, I was a little frustrated, but had some fun. I will be back in the car in two weeks on June 3rd for the Rayce Rudeen Foundation event at PDTR.”

The Alex Pokorski – Akright Auto Racing Team is set to travel to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. for an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series event this Saturday, May 27, which will also feature the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and Badger Midgets.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m., followed by spectator gates at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m.

In his Wilmot Raceway debut during an MSA 360 Sprint Car event last August, Alex recorded a strong fourth place A-main showing.

“With Plymouth being off, we will be headed to Wilmot next week with the MSA,” Alex said. “I’m excited to go back there, after doing well last year.”

Alex Pokorski charges to career-best podium PDTR 360 Sprint Car showing

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 16, 2023 – In his fourth season behind the week of a Sprint Car, Alex Pokorski put his improved comfort and confidence level at the controls of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car on full display as he stormed up seven spots to record a career-best third place finish in a 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 13.

The West Bend, Wis. driver bolted out of the gate in the second PDTR 360 Sprint Car event of the 2023 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track by qualifying second overall in the 28-car field with a lap of 12.930 seconds.

Pokorski then started and finished third in the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car heat race to earn a berth in the 25-lap main event.

After starting 10th in the 23-car A-main field, Pokorski moved up to the high groove of the wide, black slick and smooth track surface and quickly began to work his way up through the field. On lap 4, Pokorski passed Kevin Karnitz before passing Tony Wondra on lap 5 to move into fourth in the running order.

The second caution flag of the race flew on lap 12 for the stalled car of Chris Larson, which allowed the field to bunch up behind race leader Brandon McMullen. Pokorski then used a low move on Ben Schmidt to advance to third place in turn one on lap 15.

Over the final 10 laps of the race, heavy lapped traffic and the increasingly rubber down track surface became more of a factor in the race as the majority of the field, including Pokorski, held tight to the low groove of the third-mile clay oval.

Pokorski stayed smooth in the closing laps to register a career-best third place A-main showing in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

“The car was set up nicely for qualifying, and we were really close to setting quick time,” Pokorski said. “We were a bit too loose in the heat race. I also made a few mistakes on the initial start and restart, but luckily, we still finished third. The car was really dialed in for the A main. The track did just what we were predicting, so we were ready for the dry slick early and the rubber that came later on. The car was fast from the beginning on the cushion. Later in the race, I was able to find the rubber right away and adjust my line.

“The fastest groove moved down the track as more rubber set in, which made it hard to pass in the last five laps or so,” he said. “The team has been really on top of setups, and we’ve figured out how to make this car fast, it seems. I have to thank them for giving me a great car in the two races so far this year. I think I have also been able to cut out some driver mistakes and improve my decision-making during the race. Those two or three factors paired with the new car Spyder [Akright] put me in have really made a big difference this year. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season!”

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 20 for an all-open wheel program also featuring the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and Badger Midgets.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m., followed by grandstand gates at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m.

Alex Pokorski opens 2023 PDTR 360 Sprint Car campaign with top-five run

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 9, 2023 – Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team set sail on their second season together in head-turning fashion by racking up a strong top-five A-main showing and scoring a heat race triumph in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car action, during the 2023 season opener at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 6.

With 22 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars checked in, Pokorski ripped off the sixth-fastest overall qualifying lap in 13.101 seconds around the third-mile clay oval.

By turning in the fourth quickest qualifying lap in his heat race group, Pokorski earned the pole position for the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car racer outpowered outside front row starter Justin Erickson to grab the initial lead on the drop of the green flag.

On lap 2, the yellow flag appeared when Nick Daywalt spun in turn four. The ensuing restart saw Kevin Karnitz pull even with Pokorski along the high groove. However, Pokorski held strong along the inside lane to maintain the top spot.

The red flag was displayed on lap 4 when Tristan Koenigs, Nick Daywalt and Kevin Seidler collided in turn two, which resulted in Daywalt’s car flipping on its side.

When the race resumed, the West Bend driver pulled away from Karnitz and the rest of the field to claim his fifth career PDTR-MSA heat race victory and seventh overall PDTR-MSA race win.

Pokorski then rolled off fifth in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event and held the fifth spot along the low groove during the first four laps of the race until Bill Taylor slipped past on lap 5.

Nine laps later, Pokorski battled back to move past Taylor and regain fifth place in the running order as the leaders worked through heavy lapped traffic on lap 14. Pokorski reeled in the fourth place car of Kevin Karnitz over the final 11 laps, but was unable to gain the position.

Pokorski went on to notch a fifth place showing, which equaled his career-best PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A-main finish at The Plymouth Dirt Track, in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“The new car feels great,” Pokorski said of the Triple X chassis he is utilizing this season. “The chassis transfers weight nicely and the crew had it set up well all night. I think I could’ve done a little better in qualifying, but I was happy to win the heat race. The 63K [Kevin Karnitz] almost got me on the first restart, so I had to change up my start for the second one. I was a little too aggressive, though. It ruffled some feathers, but it ended up okay.

“The A-main track was fun to race on,” he said. “The track crew did a nice job maintaining it throughout the night. I was happy to finish in the top 5 and compete well. I think we had the second-fastest lap time in the feature, so the speed is definitely there. Now, it is about doing that consistently. I’m happy to be out competing with the Akright Auto team again this year!”

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 13 for a program which will also feature the Super Six Late Model Series, Grand Nationals and B Mods.

The May 13th PDTR racing program will also be You’re Our Heroes Night with all military, police fire and EMS personnel admitted free with valid identification.

Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. with Late Model and Sprint Car qualifying at 4:30 p.m. and racing at 5 p.m.
