(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 17, 2019 – Following a 15th-place showing in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car competition on Saturday, Sept. 14, Paul Pokorski and the members of his Pokorski Motorsports team are looking forward to closing out the 2019 campaign on a high note with a Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader weekend at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 27 and The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Pokorski was among 28 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers signing in to do battle in the second-to-last race of the 2019 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion lined up third in the fourth PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race and dropped back to fourth in the running order on the opening lap as Ben Schmidt slipped past.
On lap 3, Shane Wenninger worked around Pokorski to drop the blue No. 4 machine to fifth. Three laps later, Pokorski gained back one spot as he worked the low groove to move past Schmidt into fourth place, which is where he finished.
After failing to make the top-16 heat race passing point qualifiers for the A main, Pokorski lined up on the pole for the 12-lap B main. Ben Schmidt got the jump on the opening lap to take the lead, while Pokorski settled into second. The West Bend driver held the runner-up spot throughout the remaining laps to earn a spot in the evening’s 25-lap A main.
Pokorski rolled off from the 18th starting spot in the A main and hovered around 19th through the majority of the early portion of the event. After a red flag for a flip involving race leader Travis Arenz in turn four on lap 23, Pokorski restarted 17th.
Pokorski gained a few more spots when a caution flag was displayed on lap 24 when Justin Miller hit the turn three wall. The 27th-year driver restarted 15th and held the spot during a green-white-checkered flag finish to take 15th in the race, which was won by Adam Miller.
“The car was good in hot laps and got mysteriously tight in the heat race,” Pokorski said. “That hurt our finish. We made good changes for the B main and the car was pretty good. I thought the feature finish was disappointing given how well the B went, but starting 18th on a fast racetrack is hard. The MSA has a lot of good cars so it’s always hard and starting back that far makes it harder for sure.”
The Pokorski Motorsports team will close out the 2019 season with a pair of MSA events during the weekend of Sept. 27-28. On Friday, Sept. 27, the team will compete in the first annual Fuzzy Fassbender Memorial at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam. Wis. The event will also feature the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series, as well as A Modifieds and B Modifieds. Hot laps will begin at 6 p.m. followed by qualifying and racing at 7 p.m.
The 2019 campaign will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 28 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. with an all-Sprint Car program dubbed the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships featuring the MSA 360 Sprint Cars, IRA 410 Sprint Cars, Wisconsin Wingless Sprint Cars and IRA Lightning Sprint Cars. Hot laps will begin at 5 p.m. followed by qualifying and racing at 6 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to the two-night conclusion to the year,” Pokorski said. “I’ve learned to love Dodge County and it will be nice to honor local racing hero and Hall of Famer Fuzzy Fassbender on that night. Then wrapping up the season with a big night of all Sprint Cars at Plymouth should be awesome. I can’t believe 2019 is almost in the books.”
