(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 2, 2017 – The ebb and flow of the 2017 racing season flipped back to the good side for Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team over back-to-back nights at The Plymouth Dirt Track and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie last weekend.
On Saturday, July 29, the team was among 25 PDTR Sprint Cars which signed in to do battle on the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds third-mile clay oval. The night got off to a rousing start as Pokorski drove to his first heat race victory of the season, following a spirited duel with Tim Haddy in the second Sprint Car heat race.
After lining up sixth in the A-main, Pokorski raced in the top five throughout most of the event and advanced into the top three following an accident involving Danny Schlafer and Tim Haddy. Pokorski battled with Doug Wondra and Justin Miller in the closing stages of the 25-lap main event before taking the checkered flag in second place behind first-time PDTR A-main winner Kevin Karnitz.
“It was nice to come out on the winning end of a nice side-by-side battle with Tim Haddy in the heat race,” Pokorski said. “In the main, the car was decent. We had another good race with Justin Miller and finished with a solid second.”
On Sunday, the team ventured to the historic Angell Park Speedway on Sunday night for the second of three scheduled appearances for the Midwest Sprint Car Association at the Sun Prairie speed plant this season.
With 21 MSA cars in the pit area, Pokorski lined up third in the second heat race. After getting shuffled back in the pack at the start of the 10-lap race, Pokorski came home fifth. He automatically advanced to the A main where he started 15th.
The first half of the 25-lap A main proved to be relatively uneventful for Pokorski as he maintained the 15th position as the caution flew on lap 15. On the restart, the 2014 MSA Masters Series champion found his groove as he used the high line to sweep past Tony Wondra, Josh Teunissen and Doug Wondra with a big move in turns one and two to advance to 12th.
The caution was displayed again on lap 23 when Ryan Mayr flipped along the backstretch. After restarting 10th, Pokorski bolted past Will Gerrits and Dannon Tessmer on the restart to come home with a solid eighth-place showing in a race won by Danny Schlafer.
“On Sunday night, we just got bad start in heat, which got us behind and in the back of the pack to start the A main,” Pokorski said. “Once traffic thinned a bit in the feature, we got rolling pretty good and managed to get a pretty decent eighth-place finish. It was a pretty good weekend overall. I’m happy anytime we go forward.”
This Saturday, Aug. 5, Pokorski will return to The Plymouth Dirt Track for PDTR Sprint Car action. The Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars will also be competing, along with the PDTR Micro Sprints. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
