(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 3, 2019 – Paul Pokorski and the Pokorski Motorsports team were in position to tally another top-10 showing in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fair, but a reversal of fortune in the second half of the 25-lap A main dashed those hopes during the 2019 Sheboygan County Fair in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 31.

Pokorski was among 34 drivers signing in to compete in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car portion of the all-Sprint Car program, which also featured the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and a special appearance by retired NASCAR champion Tony Stewart.

After lining up on the inside of the second row of the first PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski dropped back to fourth on the opening lap before pulling off an impressive move on second lap to power past both Kurt Davis and Sean Rayhall in turn three on lap 3 and vault from fourth to second.

The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion held the runner-up spot for the remainder of the 10-lap race to earn a berth in the 25-lap main event.

“Car was very decent in the heat race,” Pokorski said. “I thought it did everything I wanted it to for the most part and I was pretty happy.”

After starting seventh in the A main, Pokorski found himself in a heated duel with Kurt Davis for eighth on lap 5. Two laps later, Pokorski switched lanes from the low line to the high groove, where he found the going a bit rough.

On lap 11, Tyler Brabant swept past along the low groove to push Pokorski back to 10th in the running order. Adam Miller and Travis Arenz followed as Pokorski fell back to 12th on lap 15.

The lone caution of the race appeared on lap 22 when Chris Clayton spun in turn four. Following the retirement of Justin Miller due to a mechanical problem, Pokorski restarted 11th. The West Bend resident dueled for the 11th spot throughout the final three laps before settling for 12th at the finish line in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

“I screwed up last week and over tightened the car, so I wanted to make sure we didn’t do that again,” Pokorski said. “This time we might have been a little bit the other way. I was also a little too quick to give up on running the bottom as soon as somebody challenged me on the top. It was another frustrating result in the end. However, you take the good with the bad and we’ll start working on getting ready for the next one.”

For the second week in a row at Plymouth, Pokorski’s son Alex got a turn behind the wheel of the familiar blue No. 4 machine during hot laps.

“I did enjoy watching Alex hot lap the car,” Pokorski said. “He looked pretty good for the most part with one exception where we all held our breath.”

Pokorski was pleased to see a capacity crowd turn out for the special Sheboygan County Fair race featuring Tony Stewart competing with the IRA. He hopes a few of the dirt-track racing newcomers decide to come back for more PDTR and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car action after witnessing a great duel for the lead between Kevin Karnitz and Brandon McMullen in the closing laps of the 360 Sprint Car main event.

“It’s been a great year for the MSA with all of the rookies, great car counts and some great racing,” Pokorski said. “Saturday night at Plymouth was no exception. I hope it got some people’s attention and puts more fans in the stands on a regular basis.”

There are no events scheduled for the PDTR or MSA 360 Sprints Cars this weekend, so the Pokorski Motorsports team will take the weekend off. The next event for the team is Saturday, Sept. 14 at The Plymouth Dirt Track with hot laps slated at 5:30 p.m. and racing scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
