(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 30, 2018 – For the first time in three weeks, Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team completed a full night of Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car competition at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. without any weather-related intervention on Saturday, May 26.
After two consecutive weeks during which the PDTR 360 Sprint A-main event was washed out, Pokorski was eager to complete a full evening of racing, especially on a night that was sponsored by Pokorski Motorsports supporter Pedal Down Promotions.
With hot and humid conditions giving the evening a mid-summer feel, a field of 27 PDTR Sprint Cars registered to do battle on the third-mile clay oval.
After lining up seventh in the first PDTR Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski was able to advance to sixth on the opening lap. On lap 4, the 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association (MSA) Masters Series champion slipped past Emily Portschy to assume fifth in the running order. Pokorski held on to fifth place at the finish line to earn a spot in the 22-car A-main lineup.
After the calculation of passing points and the inversion draw, Pokorski was slotted into the pole position for the 25-lap PDTR A-main. On the drop of the green flag, Pokorski fell back to third as former PDTR Sprint Car champs Kurt Davis and Lance Fassbender slipped past on the opening lap.
As Pokorski continued to search for his line in the early stages of the race, he found himself running as far back as eighth in the first half of the event.
While the laps clicked off and the low line slicked off, Pokorski began to find his stride along the high groove steadily making his way back to the front as the leaders worked their way through lapped traffic over the closing 10 laps.
With two laps to go, Pokorski worked around Scott Conger for fourth and dueled briefly with Danny Schlafer for the third spot before settling for fourth place and his first top-five A-main finish of the 2018 racing season in a race won by Josh Walter.
Pokorski Motorsports is now set to compete in its first doubleheader weekend of the 2018 racing season, beginning with PDTR action on Saturday, June 2 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth and concluding with an MSA traveling event on Sunday, June 3 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie.
“I’m looking forward to going to Angel Park and getting to race two nights in a row for the first time all season,” Pokorski said. “Our last time there things went pretty well and I’m excited to see if we can build on that.”
In three appearances at Angell Park last year, Pokorski posted a pair of top-10 finishes in A-main competition, including an eighth-place showing in the MSA A-main on July 30, 2017.
On Saturday, June 2 at The Plymouth Dirt Track, the grandstand will open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing set to begin at 6 p.m.
Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing to follow on Sunday, June 3 at Angell Park Speedway.
