(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 31, 2025 – From dramatic finishes to close contact to dominating performances, the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. provided a little bit of it all on Saturday, May 31.
In the 30-lap Seubert Calf Ranches Super Six Late Model presented by 106.5 The Buzz, Nick Anvelink of Bonduel held off a spirited challenge from Waukesha’s Taylor Scheffler in the closing laps to claim the victory.
Two-time and defending Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car champion Ben Schmidt of Plymouth impressively led flag-to-flag to claim victory in the 25-lap headliner.
Tyler Wilson of Little Suamico steered his IMCA Stock Car to victory lane against a strong field of Grand Nationals in the 25-lap Oostburg Automotive Grand National main event.
Last year’s PDTR B Mod champ Travis Schmidt of Plymouth put together a stellar performance on the way to victory in the 25-lap Sheboygan Flooring B Mod A main.
After starting on the outside of the front row, Nick Anvelink blasted his way into the lead along the cushion exiting turn four of the opening lap of the Late Model headliner as polesitter Taylor Scheffler of Waukesha dueled with third starter and six-time PDTR Late Model champ Brad Mueller of Random Lake for the runner-up spot.
With Anvelink continuing to hold the top spot, 2014 PDTR Late Model champ Mitch McGrath of Waukesha, who started fourth, slipped past Taylor Scheffler to take over second on lap 13. McGrath’s bid for victory drew to a quick halt on lap 21 when he pulled off the track with smoke billowing from his ailing machine.
After a pair of caution flags on lap 23 and lap 24, Scheffler and Mueler continued to engage in a heated duel for second in the running order. After sealing the second position, Scheffler bolted in to close the gap on Anvelink on lap 26.
Three laps later, Scheffler got a run on Anvelink along the high groove before dipping low to pull even in turn two. After Anvelink battled back to retain the lead in turns three and four, Scheffler ripped off a slide job in turn two on the final circuit.
Scheffler briefly cleared Anvelink before contact between the two cars pushed Sheffler sideways and allowed Anvelink to sneak past and Mueller to close the gap significantly.
The three competitors raced to the checkered flag under a thin blanket with Avelink prevailing by a mere .03 of a second for his fifth career PDTR Late Model victory.
Scheffler wound up a very close second with Mueller immediately behind in third. Sixth starter Brett Swedberg of Shawano placed fourth and Jayden Schmidt of Seymour worked his way up from the ninth starting position to round out the top five.
Outside front row starter Ben Schmidt outpowered polesitter Brady Portschy of Plymouth to surge into the top spot on the opening lap of the 360 Sprint Car main event with Clayton Rossman of Wadsworth, Ill., who started fourth, following in second.

Schmidt ran away to build up a significant lead before he caught the rear of the field on lap 7. Rossmann was able to close briefly on Schmidt before the veteran Sprint Car competitor found another gear to slice his way through slower traffic in clinical fashion.
As the leaders sliced their way through the rear of the field, third starter Kevin Karnitz of West Bend slipped past Rossmann to seal second on lap 12. Two laps later, sixth starter Alex Pokorski of West Bend assumed third by working past Rossmann.
With 10 laps to go, Schmidt had built up a huge half-lap, 6-second lead over Karnitz. Schmidt retained his sizable lead down the stretch to post his second A-main victory of the 2025 campaign and 27th career PDTR 360 Sprint A-main triumph in the caution-free event.
The victory moved Schmidt into sole possession of second place on the all-time PDTR 360 Sprint Car wins list. It was also Schmidt’s 48th career MMW Industrial Supply Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A-main win.
Karnitz finished second, Pokorski was third in his first appearance of the 2025 season in PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car action, three-time PDTR 360 Sprint Car champion Donny Goeden of Kewaskum placed fourth after starting seventh and Rossmann rounded out the top five.
Brad Weiss of Cascade blasted into the lead on the drop of the green flag from his outside front row starting spot in the 25-lap Grand National A main. On lap 5, seven-time Plymouth track champion in Grand National and Super Stock competition Brian Gilles of Plymouth pulled up to pressure Weiss for the top spot from the third starting position.
Meanwhile, sixth starter Tyler Wilson of Little Suamico pounded the cushion to seize third from the sixth starting position on lap 7.
With Wilson closing quickly along the outer edge of the racing surface, Weiss and Gilles raced three wide with Wilson on lap 22.

One lap later, Gilles unleashed a bid to take over the top spot from Weiss in turn two on lap 23. However, the two drivers made contact along the backstretch which allowed Wilson to bolt past both Weiss and Gilles and nail down the lead of the race.
Wilson went on to capture his first career Grand National A-main triumph in thrilling fashion behind the wheel of his IMCA Stock Car. Gilles recovered to place second, seventh starter Ryan Minster of Sheboygan placed third, Weiss held on to place fourth and 2019 PDTR Grand National champion Tyler Kulow of Plymouth moved up from the eighth starting to round out the top five.
Polesitter Brad Buckmann of Kiel assumed the lead in the 25-lap B Mod main event from the pole. On lap 2, outside front row starter and 2024 PDTR B Mod champ Travis Schmidt of Plymouth gained the top spot exiting turn four while third starter Travis Kleindl of Beaver Dam assumed second.
After enduring a string of four caution periods over the next 10 laps, three-time PDTR B Mod champion Tim Warner of Malone swept into third from the fifth starting position on lap 15.
Following the fifth and final caution flag on lap 19, Warner secured the runner-up spot. However, Schmidt held strong on the stretch as he rolled to his eighth career PDTR B Mod A-main victory.

Warner had to settle for second, Kleindl wound up third, sixth starter Spencer Long of Sheboygan Falls placed fourth and Steve Lorier of Sheboygan placed fifth after starting ninth.
B-main victories went to Steven Ruh of New Holstein (360 Sprint Car), Will Schumacher of Hartford (Grand National) and Jordan Gracyalny (B Mod).
Mitch McGrath claimed top qualifying honors in the Late Model division with a lap of 13.720 seconds.
Two-time Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified champ Billy Kreutz of Kiel earned his second fast qualifier award of the 2025 season in the 360 Sprint Car division with a lap of 12.721 seconds.
The fourth event of the 2025 PDTR campaign, sponsored by Josfro Electric, attracted a season-high 112 total entries, including 32 Grand Nationals, 31 B Mods, 28 360 Sprint Cars and 21 Super Six Late Model Series cars.
