(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 16, 2020 – One week after watching his father, Paul, cap his full-time racing career with an A-main victory, 21-year-old rookie Alex Pokorski took his first turn at the wheel of the Pokorski Motorsports 360 Sprint Car in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing competition at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 13.

After he was originally scheduled to start ninth in the first 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski moved up a row to seventh on the drop of the green flag due to a scratch. In his first-ever Sprint Car race, Pokorski dropped to eighth at the start before running a smooth line and keeping pace with the pack. On lap four, Pokorski caught and passed Tom Kreutz in turn one to move into seventh.

Two laps later, Kreutz slowed to a stop on the backstretch to bring out a caution flag on lap 6. Pokorski restarted seventh and held the spot over the final three laps.

Pokorski then rolled off sixth in the first 12-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main, which included a pair of caution flags before the completion of the first lap. The Concordia University of Wisconsin student dropped to fifth on the opening lap when Josh Teunissen moved past and fell to sixth when Nick Daywalt maneuvered around him.

After the final caution period, Pokorski maintained the sixth position and closed in on Daywalt over the final two laps before ending his debut event with a sixth-place finish.

“My first night in the car was a lot of fun and overall, I was happy with how it went,” Pokorski said. “I was a little nervous prior to the night starting, but once I was at the track and in the car, any nervousness I had quickly dissipated.

“The competitor in me isn’t entirely content with running in the back of the field, but that’s how everyone starts out so I’m not too worried about it,” he said. “From a learning standpoint, I was able to get more comfortable in the car and set a benchmark for myself to improve upon next week.”

Pokorski will embark on his second night of 360 Sprint Car racing next Saturday, June 20 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. for the next Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 20.
