(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 14, 2023 – Following a tough weekend of competition against talent-laden national touring Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car Series fields, Travis Arenz and the Travis Arenz Motorsports team returned to Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series competition in impressive fashion by notching a pair of top-five showings during a doubleheader weekend of action at Sycamore Speedway in Maple Grove, Ill. on Saturday, June 10 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, June 11.

In his first visit to the Sycamore Speedway, Arenz quickly found the Illinois speed plant to his liking by ripping off the sixth fastest qualifying lap in the 28-car field with a lap of 13.141 seconds.

After starting third in the third eight-lap IRA heat race, the Sheboygan Falls, Wis. driver placed fourth. Arenz then lined up on the pole of the second four-lap dash and raced to victory to secure the second starting spot in the 30-lap IRA main event.

Arenz jumped out to the lead along the extreme high line of the ultra-slick Sycamore Speedway racing surface on the opening lap of the 30-lap IRA A main. On lap 2, Jordan Goldesberry used the low lane to sweep past Arenz into the lead.

One lap later, Blake Nimee ducked low to relegate the 2021 and 2022 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car champion to third in the running order. After a pair of caution flags on lap 5 for a Scotty Neizel spin in turn two and lap 10 when Goldesberry made contact with a slower car and spun in turn four while leading.

With Goldesberry out of contention for the win, Arenz restarted second behind Nimee and retained the spot until the third caution of the race appeared for another spin involving Scotty Neitzel in turn two on lap 20. Following the final restart, Arenz stuck to the low line as rubber down conditions set in on the one-lane track surface and went on to earn his first IRA podium finish of the 2023 season and equal his career-best IRA A-main showing with a second place finish behind race winner Blake Nimee.

“I thought Sycamore was a really neat track,” Arenz said. “I enjoyed it a lot. It was huge to be able to qualify sixth quick. I finally had a good draw, which set us up with a decent track in qualifying.

“I was able to draw the pole starting position for the second dash, which was what I hoped for based on the condition of the track at this point,” he said. “So, being able to win the dash and start on the front row of the feature was huge. Overall, it was a great night of racing with a podium finish.”

On Sunday, June 11, Arenz qualified 10th in the 31-car field with a lap of 12.278 seconds around the third-mile Angell Park Speedway clay oval. After starting on the pole in the first IRA heat race, Arenz wound up second after rookie Brenham Crouch slipped past in the early going.

Arenz began the 30-lap IRA A main from the 11th starting position and gradually worked his way to the front. After a pair of cautions in the opening laps, Arenz restarted seventh on lap 11. Nine laps later, Arenz advanced into the top five and moved in to challenge Zach Hampton for fourth on lap 24.

Two more caution flags bunched the pack in the closing laps as Arenz held strong to record a fifth place showing to earn his fifth top-five A-main finish of the 2023 season in a race won by Bill Balog.

“Angell Park started with our old ways of drawing bad and qualifying towards the back of the field,” Arenz said. “We were able to transfer to the feature from the heat, but did not make the dash. Overall, the car was decent and we went forward for a top 5 in the main event.”

With the IRA off this weekend, the team’s racing plans are undetermined. For updates, check the Travis Arenz Motorsports Facebook and Twitter pages.
