(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) April 11, 2024 – To commemorate her 10th year of creating children’s books designed to capture the imagination of the entire family, Plymouth, Wis. Author Karen Meyer has released “Papa Bear’s Fence” as her 16th book publication.

Published through Pedal Down Promotions of Manitowoc, Wis., Meyer’s whimsical new children’s picture book showcases Meyer’s engaging storytelling coupled with the vivid hand-drawn illustrations of Joan Graven.

“‘Papa Bear’s Fence’ is the story of a bear family and their efforts to work together to protect their house after reading in the newspaper about a girl who went into a bear family’s house and caused trouble,” Meyer said. “Most of my picture books offer humor for adults and pictures and stories for children. ‘Papa Bear’s Fence’ is a book for the whole family.”

Meyer says writing children’s books has allowed her to utilize her love of writing to help entertain her grandchildren.

“My introduction to writing was from high school writing assignments,” Meyer said. “The teacher encouraged me to continue writing.

“When our grandson was seven, he asked us if hyenas were real,” she said. “We took him to the zoo. There were two hyenas who offered a number of different poses. I took pictures. A few years later, I put captions under selected poses and wrote a sweet family hyena story, ‘Hootch’, which was published in 2015.”

Meyer has excelled in the children’s book genre since debuting “Hootch” nine years ago.

“I have released picture books for young children and chapter books for tweens over the years,” Meyer said. “A medieval knight story is waiting to be published, and I’m presently writing a romantic comedy for adult readers.

“Writing books gives me an opportunity to use my imagination,” she said. “I also enjoy connecting with readers.”
