Paul Pokorski racked up his second top-five and fifth top-10 A-main finish of the 2019 season with a fourth-place showing in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car racing action at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 15. – RC Custom Design photo

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 18, 2019 – The luck of the heat race passing points invert roll played right into the hands of Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team on the way to a rock solid top-five A-main showing in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

With yet another impressive field of 36 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers and teams assembled to do battle, an unlucky pill draw relegated Pokorski to the seventh starting position in the first 10-lap heat race of the evening.

The 27-year racing veteran wasted little time getting to work as he moved past Mike Decker to gain sixth place in turn one of the before passing Chris Flick for fifth in turn four on lap 1. Pokorski then worked his way around Brandon Berth into fourth place on lap 5 and held the fourth-place position the rest of the way to earn enough passing points to advance to the evening’s 25-lap A main.

“The heat race was very good,” Pokorski said. “We made the best of a bad draw. Then we had a little luck with the heat race passing points invert to start on the pole of the A main.”

The initial start of the PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main was wiped clean on the opening lap following a four-car incident exiting turn four involving Brandon McMullen, Adam Miller, Bill Taylor and Josh Teunissen.

After rolling off from the pole position on the complete restart, Pokorski felt immediate pressure from outside front row starter Will Gerrits, who outpowered the West Bend driver to seize the lead in turn one of the opening circuit.

Pokorski then fell to third when Danny Schlafer worked his way past in turn three on the first lap. On lap 9, Travis Arenz worked his way around Pokorski to drop the 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion to fourth in the running order.

Pokorski maintained the fourth position the rest of the way on the fast and smooth racing surface to record the team’s fifth top-10 and second top-five A-main finish of the 2019 Midwest Sprint Car Association campaign, while Gerrits went on to collect his first career MSA A-main victory.

“I was a little disappointed with the A-main,” Pokorski said. “I never like backing up, but it’s hard to complain about a fourth-place finish. We also learned a few things and will try to improve the car for next week with those changes.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is set to take part in another MSA doubleheader racing weekend kicking off on Friday, June 21 at SK Speedway (formerly Spring Lake Speedway) in Unity, Wis. Hot laps are slated to begin at 5:45 p.m. with racing scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, June 22, the Pokorski Motorsports team returns to The Plymouth Dirt Track for a four-division program, including the PDTR 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Grand Nationals and B Mods. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. with racing slated to begin at 6 p.m.

“I always look forward to two-race weekends,” Pokorski said. “Going to SK Speedway in Unity is fun. It is always nice to get to race in front of fans who don’t always get to see Sprint Car racing. I hope we [MSA] put on in a good show for them.”
